OCL INDIA LIMITED, formerly "Orissa Cement Limited" and better known as
"OCL", was established in the year 1949, which started producing Cement
through wet process technology under the brand name of "Konark". Keeping a
steady progress with time and technology it has modernized to fully automated dry
process plant in 1988. OCL commands the position of market leadership in the
state of Orissa since its inception and today it is the premier lead brand in the state
of Orissa. ‘Konark' brand cement enjoys brand advantage in the region. It is a
name cemented to Quality.
OCL diversified from Cement to the field of Refractories in 1954. Over the years,
it has become one of the largest and well-equipped state of the art Refractory plant
in India covering a wide range of products for use in the Ferrous & the non-ferrous
Industries. Its customer base spreads from iron and steel to cement, aluminum,
glass, copper, chemicals and hydrocarbon industries. Today, OCL enjoys a huge
market share in India and overseas extending to five continents across the globe.
During the year 2001-02 OCL diversified its activities into Sponge Iron and now
forayed further into Steel making. In line with this vision, the Company has
already installed a Captive Power plant and is going to commission 0.25 million
tons steel billet plant.
OCL, as per scheme of arrangement approved by the honourable High Court of
Orissa demerged its Steel undertaking and Real Estate undertaking by transferring
the assets and liabilities as on 1st January 2007 into “OCL Iron and Steel Ltd.” and
“Landmark Property Development Company Ltd(formerly Konark Minerals Ltd.)
respectively. The scheme of arrangement also involved merger of the business of
Dalmia Cement (Meghalaya) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dalmia
Cement (Bharat) Ltd, as on 1st July 2007 with the approval of the honourable
Court of Guwahati.

Awards & Recognitions
OCL diversified from Cement to the field of Refractories in
1954. Over the years, it has become one of the largest and state
of the art Refractory plants in India with an annual capacity of
80,000 Mt, covering a wide range of products for use in the
ferrous & the non-ferrous Industries.
The initial technical know how came from M/S [Link] of
Germany for Coke Oven Silica bricks and from M/S TYK
Corporation of Japan for Magnesia-Carbon, Alumina-Mag-
Carbon, Alumina-Silicon Carbide-Carbon, Concast
Refractories, Lance-pipe, Precast, Purging Plug, & BF Runner
castables. All the other products were developed in-house. To
keep pace with ever-growing expectation of customers for
quality Refractories, our highly experienced & well-equipped
technology & research teams upgrade these on a continuous
basis. With intensive R&D efforts, OCL has registered a
number of patents to its credit.
OCL happens to be the first Refractory Company in India to be
certified under ISO 9001, by RWTUV of Germany in 1994,
now updated to 2000 version for all range of its products.

KNOW HOW, TECHNICAL
COLLABORATION
Starting with initial technical know how from Dr. [Link] and Co,
Germany, OCL subsequently entered into a colloboration with
General Refractories of USA for expansion of its factory and
enlarging of the products range. Aimed at the integrating its
operations with the global market, OCL have continued its
involvement with the world leaders of refractory technology and
entered into collaboration with T.Y.K CORPORATION of Japan for
manufacture of magnesia carbon bricks, new generation castables,
precast blocks, continuous casting refractories, alumina silicon
carbide carbon and alumina magnesia carbon refractories. Recently
the company has entered in to a tie up with PILIBRICO Gmbh,
Luxembourg for manufacture of gas purging refractories.
IN-HOUSE R&D FACILTIES
Side by side with these technical colaboration , OCL in order to stand
firmly on its feet have, right from the beginning, been giving full emphasis
on its own research and development activities. As a result, OCL today
boasts of a full-fledged in house R&D Wing with state-of-art equipment
and facilities. Besides, it has also promoted an independent R&D centre -
DALMIA INSTITUTE OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH.
The strong R&D base and large pool of highly exprienced scientists and
engineers have enable OCL not only to progressively absorb changing and
advance technologies, but also to continuously improve upon the same for
optimum results and ultimate satisfaction of the customers. As a measure
of success of its continuous productive and in some respects fundamental
R&D works, OCL today holds to its credit as many as patents in India and
abroad for refractory products and process. A large number of high quality
products successfully developed through OCL's own R&D efforts are
noted for their excellent quality and performance.
QUALITY
Main focus at OCL has been on complete customer satisfaction. To
achieve this, OCL has adopted TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT, for
which EICHER CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITED are the amin
consultants. OCL also has unique distinctionof being the first
manufacturer of refractories to get ISO 9001 CERTIFICATION from
RWTUV, Germany in the yaer 1994 for its silica produts. Later on, it has
also got ISO 9001 certifiaction to cover refractory bricks and monolithics
of basic, silica, firebrick & high alumina quality including magnesia
carbon, slide gate, castables, precast, & concast refractories . OCL has
strict quality assuarnce system to ensure full confirmity of its products to
the required specification and also timely deliveries.
