Basement Column Supporting Lateral Resisting Frame Based On ACI 318-08 Input Data & Design Summary

This document summarizes the design of a basement column supporting a lateral resisting frame. Key details include: - The column is 24 inches square with 4.5 ksi concrete and #10 and #4 reinforcing bars. - Loads were calculated and design checks were performed for various load combinations per ACI 318-08. - Reinforcing, dimensions, and strength requirements were verified to exceed minimum standards. Transverse and longitudinal reinforcing along with shear strength were designed and checked against code.

ANALYSIS
DESIGN CRITERIA
1. Since the column supported reaction from lateral resisting frame, ASCE 7-05 [Link] apply.
2. Since the column is not part of the lateral force resisting system, ACI 318-08 21.13 apply.
3. Since the transverse reinforcement required 12" at least into footing per ACI 318-08 [Link]
a condition of pinned top & fixed bottom should be used.
