Reflections On Observation Task 2: Reading A Story in The Local UAE Preschool

The teacher began the listening lesson by showing students the book cover and having them predict what the story would be about. This helped the students understand the topic. During listening, students were engaged in activities to keep them on task and help them understand the text and learn about animals. However, there was no post-listening activity, which could have helped with comprehension, such as hands-on activities using cards or games. Students only listened once through the recording, and listening again would have allowed them to catch more information. Breaking the text into parts may have been most helpful for understanding. Using a pre-, during, and post-listening structure has advantages for student engagement and comprehension, but can be time-consuming.

Think about the advantages and disadvantages of using the model of pre-, while- and post-listening
activities to teach a listening lesson. Write first from the perspective of the teacher and then from the
perspective of the learners.
 Advantage:
o To make the student more engage on the listening and to make them understand it
faster and easily.
o Give the student chance to chat with their friend or teacher about the text that they
hear.
 Disadvantage:
o Its take long time to achieve it so they decided to don’t use it.
