RMK ENGINEERING COLLEGE

DIGITAL INDIA ACTIVITIES

RMK Engineering College has been organizing activities with National Informatics Center
(NIC) since 2012 like Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Students Projects and others to create
awareness to students on the Government initiatives and to create interest for students to
participate in the nation building activities.

Since 2014-15, the College has been conducting activities focused on Digital India

1. A Senior Technical Director from NIC visited RMK campus as Chief Guest for the 6th
National Conference on Research Issues in Computer Science and Engineering
(NCRICSE) in March 2015 organized by the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering (CSE). He gave a keynote address to the delegates, students and faculty
members on the Mobile Application development for eGovernance under Digital India
initiative.

2. In 2015 – 16 scientists from NIC visited RMK campus and gave Guest Lectures to
students on Digital India activities.

3. In 2015-16, students in the Department of CSE did projects with the guidance of NIC
scientists in the areas of
a. Weather prediction and recommendation using Big Data
b. Effective farming using automated paraquat sprayer
c. A safe and reputation based Recommendation framework for Cloud Services and
d. Effective classification of text & improving learning experience.
Students published these projects as papers in international conferences with the project
guides of the CSE faculty members and NIC scientists as co-authors.
4. In 2016 – 17, the College took active part in the Smart India Hackathon 2017 organized
by AICTE, NIC and other Government of India organizations as a part of Digital India
initiative. 10 teams of 6 students each submitted their solutions. Out of them 2 teams got
selected for the grand finale. A team from the Department of CSE participated in the
finals at Kochi, Kerala for the Ministry of Tourism and a team from the Department of
Information Technology (IT) participated in the finals at Kolkata for Indian Council of
Medical Research (ICMR).
5. In 2016 – 2017, one of the Professors of the Department of CSE was nominated as Smart
India Hackathon Ambassador and he coordinated with 10 nearby colleges as assigned by
AICTE in creating awareness to the colleges on the Hackathon and encouraging active
participation of students from those colleges.

6. In 2016 – 17 scientists from NIC visited RMK campus and gave Guest Lectures to
students on Digital India activities.

7. In 2016 – 17, students in the Department of CSE did projects with the guidance of NIC
scientists in the areas of
a. Mobile application for eDistrict using the Citizen Centric Mobile App for
eGovernance Services (CCMAeGS) framework of NIC
b. Big Data Analytics of eGovernance Data

8. A Technical Director from NIC visited RMK campus as Chief Guest for the 8th National
Conference on Research Issues in Computer Science and Engineering (NCRICSE) in
April 2017 organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
He gave a keynote address to the delegates, students and faculty members on the Digital
India initiatives explaining how academic institutions can participate in the Digital India.
