DKK2363 ENGINEERING MECHANICS

Assignment Chapter 4 & 5 (GROUP OF 2 OR 3 ONLY)

1) Locate the centroid for the plane area below.

a) Determine the total surface area of the solid brass knob.

b) Determine the volume and weight of the solid brass knob, knowing that the
density of brass is 8470 kg/m3.
3. The water tank AB in figure below consists of hemispherical top and is fabricated from thin steel
plate.

a) Sketch the plane area for the water tank AB.


b) The volume of water that allowed for storage in a particular time is only 70% of the overall
volume of tank for safety reason. Estimate the maximum water volume that tank AB can
stored to make sure the safety requirement is complied.
4) Calculate the force in each member of the truss by using the method of joints. Indicate whether
the member is in tension (T) or compression (C).

5) Determine the force in each member of the truss of the double pitch roof. Indicate whether the
member is in tension (T) or compression (C).
