CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
In this chapter, the researchers’ study entitled “Lucena City Health Care Centers’
Capability in Handling Patients” discussed about the reseach locale, research design,
the research instruments, the respondents and as well as the research process
conducted.
Research Locale
The study was conducted in Lucena City, Quezon Province. Specifically, the
researchers administered the study in Health Care Centers in Lucena City.
Research Design
The researchers used qualitative research design in conducting the study for it
may formulate new ideas through the discussions with the respondents. The
researchers used structured interview design wherein the researchers administered a
pre-made questions to determine the capabilities of Lucena City’s Health Care Centers
in handling patients.
Population and Sampling
The researchers used purposive sampling in choosing a respondent in each
Health Care Center in Lucena City. Purposive sampling deals with the samples that are
chosen based on the purpose of the study. Since the study deals with the capabilities of
handling patients in Health Care Centers of Lucena City, the researcher chose those
personnel who have a background in medicine or those who does the check-ups of the
patients as respondents. Their responses and perceptions served as data for the study.
Research Instrument
The researchers used structured interview in which the respondents were free to
give their answers and reasons to the questions that were made by the researchers. In
terms of constructing the questions, the researcher used the objectives of the study as a
basis. Certain revisions and variations were made in the questionnaires before gaining
the satisfaction of the researchers’ adviser. The questionnaire is consist of three (3)
questions which focuses on the common cases encountered by the health care
workers, common problems encountered by the health care workers and the actions
taken by the health care workers to address the problems encountered in handling
patients.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers chose their respondents through the use of purposive sampling
technique where the researchers choose the respondents according to the purpose of
the study. Only one (1) respondent in each Health Care Center in Lucena City was
chosen to participate in the study. The respondents that were chosen were given a form
before engaging to the interview to ensure that they are willing to participate in the
study. In addition, the form also states that all information stated by the respondents
were held confidential. The data that are gathered through recordings will undergo
various replays to get the interview transcripts and go through a thorough data analysis.
Research Ethics
An interview was done by the researchers to determine the capabilities of
handling patients of Health Care Centers in Lucena City. The researchers formulated a
pre-made questionnaire as a guide in the flow of the interview. The respondents signed
a form stating that the study is to meet the researchers’ requirements and all the
information stated by the respondents are being held confidential.
Data Analysis
The gathered data were analyzed. The researchers used thematic analysis for the
analysis of data. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns or similarities among the
concepts of the responses and are associated to the questions. The data gathered by the
researchers were transcribed and was read thoroughly for the researcher to familiarize
the responses and to identify the themes present in each datum. The identified themes
served as the basis of coding the data. After that, the researchers finally coded the data
to organize and manage the data analysis.
