History II Syllabus
U.S. History II Course Description:
Students will use investigative skills to explore American history since 1865. Students will make connections
between the past and the present as they study United States history in chronological order and learn about
change and repetition in United States history. Students will also use primary and secondary sources to evaluate
differing perspectives of the events and people that shaped Unites States history. What we discover about the
history of the United States will give us a better understanding of human societies and help us learn from past
mistakes and accomplishments.
Major topics covered in our curriculum:
Reconstruction, Legacies, and Racial Segregation Pearl Harbor and WW II: Atlantic, Pacific, at
Westward Expansion, Immigration, and Big Home
Business Postwar Rebuilding and UN Formation
Spanish American War and World War I Cold War Conflicts
Prohibition, Great Migration, and the Roaring Civil Rights Movement
Twenties Recent Domestic and International Issues
Great Depression and the New Deal Geography of USA and the World (1865-Present)
World War II covered throughout multiple units
Transportation, Great Migration, Prohibition

Expectations and Classroom Management: Homework and Assessments:

1. Be on time to class, on task and ready to learn. Expect specific reading assignments Mondays
through Thursdays (5% of grade).
2. Respect yourself, your classmates, and your
teacher. Weekly quizzes (20% of grade)
3. Follow directions. Bi-weekly tests/projects (40% of grade)
4. Clean up after yourself. Class assignments and webquests should be
completed in class using Kate Collins' web
5. Ask for permission to leave the classroom. servers (35% of grade).

Students will be given 2 verbal warnings and may be
