I-How to make a sentence outline:

A sentence outline is a key guideline to prepare an oral presentation or to write a text.

A sentence outline is the third type of outline which always contains full sentences
following a specific format (structure). It may show topic, introduction, body of ideas
and conclusion on the text. It should be organized using Roman numbers for the main
ideas of each paragraph and Capital letters for the secondary ideas of each paragraph.

e.g. How to Guarantee a Good Communication

I-Does communication affect the operation of a company?

A-Communication is a key factor to guarantee communication flow.

B-A company has different channels of communication.

II-Corporate communication has a structure.

[Link] is supported by a communication channel.

[Link] has a message sender and a message receiver.

[Link] message has to get through in a natural way.

III-Communication interferes the internal operation of a company.

II-How to prepare a speech or an oral presentation.

A speech or oral presentation is based on a chosen topic and it always aims at


informing or persuading people to reflect on that topic. A good speech needs to have a
good sentence outline first.

In it, the presenter has to take a clear position or stand on a topic, which clearly shows
his thesis statement. It means that the presenter may be in favor or against the topic.
The presenter has to support his ideas very clearly and substantially.

A speech needs a specific structure, which involves introduction, body of ideas and
conclusion. In the introduction, the presenter has to show his thesis statement.

Remember the conclusion is a very important part in which the presenter has to go
back to the introduction, and his thesis statement, and paraphrases it to make the
conclusions substantial and clear.
Slides´ preparation:

The support of your presentation are slides. These slides should contain: topic, aim(s),
agenda of main issues, supporting contents, conclusion(s) and references.

III-How to write an essay.

A good essay is based on a chosen topic and it always aims at persuading people to
reflect on that topic. A good essay needs to have a good sentence outline first.

In it, the writer has to take a clear position or stand on a topic, which clearly shows his
thesis statement. It means that the writer may be in favor or against the topic. The
writer has to support his ideas very clearly and substantially.

An essay needs a specific structure, which involves introduction, body of ideas and
conclusion. In the introduction, the writer has to show his thesis statement.

Remember, the conclusion is a very important part in which the writer has to go back to
the introduction, and his thesis statement, and paraphrases it to make the conclusions
substantial and clear.

Besides, a good essay has key features:

-unity: everything in the text should go around only one topic.

-coherence: there should be a clear correspondence between main idea and


secondary ideas.

-cohesion: it should have correct use of punctuation marks and sentence connectors.

-variety: it should contain simple, compound and complex sentences.

-emphasis: there should be correct use of pronouns of any kind.

Different types of essay according to its purpose:

-argumentative.

-comparison/ contrast.

-cause- effect.

-definition.

-process analysis.

-classification.
