LGBTQ Curriculum at A Glance

Week at a Glance  

PreK-  Students will learn about their identities and the identities 
Kindergarten   of others.They will explore concepts of families, gendered 
toy and clothing stereotypes, colors and meaning, flags, 
allyship and identity.  
PreK-K Week at a Glance 

1st   Students will learn how to introduce themselves using their 


Grade  name and pronouns and will practice using others’ names 
and pronouns. Students will engage in writing workshop 
lessons to explore which presentation choices make them 
feel most empowered.  
1st Gr. Week at a Glance 

2nd-3rd   Students will analyze traditional fairy tales through ain 


Grade   inclusive lens, ensuring gender neutrality and culturally 
relevant content. Students will learn basic LGBTQ 
vocabulary and understand the Gender Elephant. They will 
recognize and discuss stereotypes, and create their own 
inclusive fairy tale.  
2nd-3rd Gr. Week at a Glance 

4th-5th   Students will interact with culturally relevant content in 


Grade  order to broaden their understanding of gender identity, 
it’s history, and the role it plays in society. Students will 
watch a kid-friendly documentary about a girl who dreams 
of leading the boy-only Hula troop and a teacher who 
empowers her through traditional culture. 
4th-5th Gr. Week at a Glance 

6th-8th  During this week- long curriculum, students will interact with 
Grade  content that encourages the allyship, visibility, and activism 
for the LGBTQ+ community. Students will recognize ways 
stereotypes are reinforced and think outside the binary 
norms of society. They will become familiar with LGBTQ 
terminology in order to become better allies, learn 
significant historical events & people that contributed to 
the LGBTQ rights movement. 
6th-8th Gr. Week at a Glance 

For students with   Students will explore two colors of the rainbow flag each 
exceptional needs  day of the week. They will practice identifying the colors, 
(Park/cross-cat)  learn what the colors represent in the context of the flag, 
and will participate in an activity to reinforce that 
meaning.
