Annex 1
I. Annex 1: Specific Requirements for Surveys
4. The Consultant shall conduct the following supplementary surveys to prepare the detailed
feasibility study, and Engineering Design, and to provide bidders with the survey results.
1) Topography
a) The topographic survey shall be carried out up to 100 meters (m) each side from the
center line along the corridor of the proposed Line 5 (South), and additional areas as
necessary at stations, depot construction site, and temporary construction sites (work
camps). This survey will be of sufficient extent and detail to:
i. Establish a control network of inter visible reference markers. Each marker will be
precisely surveyed and leveled and will be tied to the national (or other) grid and
datum. Each marker will be performed, protected and measurement of reference. As
far as possible, markers will be located outside the area of works so that they can be
retained during construction.
ii. Capture of survey data in multi-dimensional digital format, including all surface
detail and with special attention to existing road levels, threshold levels and utilities
manholes, and equipment.
iii. Establish a multi-dimensional digital terrain model of a type suitable for engineering
design, automatic computation of earthworks quantities and generation of layout
drawings and perspective views.
b) For the purpose of the engineering design, drawings of topography will be prepared at scale
of 1:500.
c) The coordinate system and elevation will be in accordance with Bangladesh regulations.
d) The Consultant shall propose topographic survey to get sufficient data for the
engineering design to client for concurrence before carrying out the survey.
2) Geology
a) The soil condition along the corridor will govern the project and the final choice of the
construction methods. The geological survey shall comprise machine borings with core
sampling at the following locations with an average depth of 50 m. The details are as
follow:
i. Borehole spacing along the alignment (carried out by excavation and backfill
method; and excavated by tunnel boring machine (TBM) equipment) approximately
50 m/borehole.
ii. Viaduct section, 1 borehole for every pier location (about 30 m span).
iii. Approximately 7 boreholes for each station.
iv. Approximately 40 boreholes for depot construction site.
b) The Consultant shall propose geological survey method to get enough data (such as data
of laboratory test, mechanical and physical properties) for the engineering design to the
client for concurrence before carrying out the survey.
c) The Consultant shall produce a comprehensive geotechnical report, including:
i. Identification of physical – mechanical criteria of the soil, unity and strength of the
soil both in-situ and in laboratory.
ii. Identification of geological strata and profile of soil for the designers to define the
structure and foundation.
iii. Identification of the allocation and compression of weak soil strata to estimate the
extent and time allowance for stabilization of the ground during the construction.
iv. Identification of any other geological faults that might happen during the
construction, such as sand erosion, mud sink, etc.
3) Hydrology
a) The Consultant shall collect data on meteorology, hydrology and rainfall for Dhaka City,
from relevant meteorology stations and depot in the area. Also, the Consultant shall study
status of the drainage and sewerage system, obtain data from and discuss with relevant
management authorities. If necessary, the Consultant may apply hydraulic analysis methods
applicable in Bangladesh.
b) The contents of survey are:
i. History of highest and lowest water level (include foolproof of water level, the year
appears, durations and reasons);
ii. Available data on projections of increased or decreased flow considering climate
change impacts, as necessary, in coordination with the climate change expert;
iii. Normal water level, the number of days of frequent water emergence;
iv. Run off of all rivers and channels on the areas; and
v. Status and planning of drainage and sewerage system along Line 5 (South) corridor.
4) Project land clearance boundary survey
a) The area surrounded by the boundary to be used for the implementation of Line 5 (South)
is defined as project land clearance. The Consultant designs the MRT system and
determines the boundary. Then, local authorities manage land acquisition and resettlement
per a resettlement plan to be built on the boundary.
b) The Consultant will define the boundary in the detailed feasibility study, which will
impact on land acquisition and resettlement.
c) For the field surveys, the Consultant shall coordinate with local authorities to access to
sites with supports of the Client.
5) Utility survey
a) Utility covers infrastructure such as telephone, power supply, foul water and potable water
networks. Information on the location and type of existing and proposed utilities will be
collected. Collecting utility information will involve both desktop studies and field surveys.
b) The Consultant shall prepare the Records and Documents on the Buildings and Urban
Utilities contained in the topographic plan based on the Consultant’s own investigations.
c) For the desktop study, the Consultant shall visit utility owners and collect any information
that they have on existing and proposed utilities. It is likely that the information will be
incomplete and unreliable. Hence, a field survey will also be carried out to locate existing
utilities within the Line 5 (South) corridor.
d) The Consultant shall record physical coordinates including levels of manholes, inspection
chambers, substations and the like, using the topographical reference system to be
developed by the topographical survey.
e) The Consultant shall collect more detail on utilities for particularly critical areas such as the
vicinity of the stations, the area where the line transitions from underground to elevated,
and the elevated section.
6) Materials availability survey
a) Materials are defined as those raw materials used as inputs for construction of various
structures in the project.
b) The Consultant shall conduct research on the availability of all the necessary materials
in Bangladesh, or, in case they are not available locally, outside the country, with due
attention to the economy, efficiency and quality required for construction of such
structures.
c) The Consultant shall also prepare plans for how those required materials are imported
and transported to the project site in accordance with the construction schedule.
7) Infrastructure survey
a) Infrastructure is defined as physical objects such as roads and buildings, which may be
obstacles to the construction of Line 5 (South).
b) The Consultant will collect infrastructure data through desktop and field survey to identify
proposed new road and building works and their timetable, and general condition and
pavement structure of the existing roads. If necessary, the Consultant will coordinate with
infrastructure management authorities to execute surveys, with support of the Client.
c) The Consultant will record physical coordinates using the topographical reference system
to be developed by the topographical survey.
