1.1 Educational Models 2.1.2 Compare Educational Models, and Explain How They Impact The Classroom

There are four main educational models that impact the classroom: student-led, teacher-led, combined student-teacher, and response to intervention. Student-led models give students control over their learning through peer teaching and discussions. Teacher-led focuses on direct instruction from the teacher. Combined models have students and teachers working together through activities, field trips, and discussions. Response to intervention identifies at-risk students and continually assesses and supports them to ensure comprehension. These different pedagogies help engage diverse learners and introduce variety to the classroom.

2.1.2 Compare Educational Models, and explain how they impact the classroom

Within the classroom, an important job of a teacher is to find other options of teaching

styles that mix it up in the classroom and accommodate every type of learner. These methods or

pedagogies help the teacher combine student, teacher and combined teaching strategies into the

classroom to further learning abilities.

The first example of a pedagogy would be student led. This is where the students get the

opportunity to control how they are taught using a constructivism approach. During class we

talked about different ways this can be used in a classroom from cooperative learning, peer

teaching to student led socratic seminars. (Evidence 1.1.1) This gives students the opportunity to

speak up and gain self-confidence within the classroom and an outlet to advocate for their own

comprehension. Another form of teaching is the obvious teacher led that focuses on behaviorism,

which can also be known as operant conditioning. This “focuses on objectively observable

behaviors'' (Evidence 1.1.1) Teacher led is what many classroom settings look like, where the

teacher is in control of the learning environment and ways of direct teaching, modeling and

demonstration. B.F Skinner can be used as a theorist to back this pedagogy up as he supported

the idea of behaviorism in that behavior is determined through enforcement of reinforcements or

punishments from an authority figure such as a teacher. (Evidence 1.1.2) Following these two

sperate teaching styles, there can also be a combined pedagogy where the student and teacher

work together to complete the lessons of the day. This is a form of social constructivism shown

through interactive games, field trips, white board problems or even whole class discussions.

(Evidence 1.1.2) The final pedagogy is Response to Intervention which can also be identified as
social constructivism. Examples of this would be where a teacher identifies a student with a

disability who is at risk and continually assesses them and works alongside them to make sure

they are able to comprehend the information. Bloom’s taxonomy can be shown through this

when a teacher takes the time to go through each taxonomy step to make sure the student can

comprehend the material. (Evidence 1.1.3)

Each of these pedagogies can help students take control of their own learning and also be

introduced to different types of teaching methods.
