MOUNT CARMEL VIDHYAPEETH

Class 7
Science Assignment 2
Date: 15 May 2020

Read the passage carefully and answer the given questions

Clothes are made up of fibres. There are two kinds of fibres: natural fibres and
artificial fibres. Natural fibres are obtained from nature. Fur, jute, cotton, silk,
wool and flax are natural fibres. Cotton, silk and wool are most widely used for
clothing. These fibres are long, flexible and can easily be made into thread. Clothes
made of each of these fibres have special quality that makes them popular. Silk has
great lustre and softness whereas wool provides warmth.
Cotton, jute and flax are obtained from plants. So they are called plant fibres.
Wool, silk and fur are obtained from animals. They are therefore, called animal
fibres. Wool comes from the fleece of sheep, goat, yak, camel and rabbit. We get silk
from the cocoons of silkworms. Silk was first discovered in ancient time in China.
Chinese kept the secret of how silk was made. Later silk was also developed by
Japan.
Acrylic, polyester, nylon, and rayon are artificially manufactured fibres. They
