Probability Calculations for Cards and Dice

This document contains the solutions to two probability questions involving cards and dice. For the first question, the probabilities of selecting a club card, jack card, ace card, and pictured card from a standard 52-card deck are calculated to be 0.25, 0.07, 0.07, and 0.30 respectively. The second question finds the probability of (i) getting a sum of 8 or 11 when rolling two dice, which is 0.19, and (ii) getting a prime number sum when rolling two dice, which is 0.416.

[Link].1. What is the Probability of selecting the following cards?

i) Club card ii) Jack card iii) Ace card iv) Pictured card

i) Club card
The favorable outcomes of a jack is 13 out of 52 cards.
Therefore, probability of getting a jack:
Probability = Number of favourable outcomes / Total outcome
= 13/52
Probability = 0.25
b) Jack card
The favourable outcomes of a jack is 4 out of 52 cards.
Therefore, probability of getting a jack:
Probability = Number of favourable outcomes / Total outcome
= 4/52
Probability = 0.07
c) Ace card
The favourable outcomes of a jack is 4 out of 52 cards.
Therefore, probability of getting a jack:
Probability = Number of favourable outcomes / Total outcome
= 4/52
Probability = 0.07
d) Picture card
The favourable outcomes of a jack is 16 out of 52 cards.
Therefore, probability of getting a jack:
Probability = Number of favourable outcomes / Total outcome
= 16/52

Probability = 0.30

If two dice are rolled.

ANS:
Simple Spacing of 2 dice is
S= {(1,1)(1,2)(1,3) (1,4) (1,5) (1,6,) (2,1)(2,2)(2,3)(2,4)(2,5)(2,6)(3,1)(3,2)(3,3)(3,4)(3,5)

(6,4)(6,5)(6,6)}
i)
Sum is 8 or 11
Let Q = sum is 8 or 11
Q= {(2,6)(3,5)(4,4)(5,3)(6,2)(5,6) (6,5)
Probability = favourable Outcome/ Total outcome
=7/36
Probability = 0.19
ii)
Sum is prime NO
Let Q = Sum is prime NO
Q= {(1,1)(1,2)(1,4) (1,6,) (2,1)(2,3)(2,5)(2,6)(3,2)(3,4)(4,1)(4,3)(5,2)(5,6)(6,1)
(6,5)}
Probability = favourable Outcome/ Total outcome
=15/36
Probability = 0.416
