Each Question carry equal marks:

Q#1: A manometer that containing mercury under water measures the pressure
differential over instrument, so a venturi meter is placed horizontal and have a
throat diameter 20mm is set in a 75mm ID pipeline. At 15oC water is flowing
through the pipeline. When the manometer reading is 500mm, what is the flowrate
in lit/hr. If 12% of the differential is permanently lost, what is the power
consumption of the meter?

Q#2: At a rate of 125 std ft3/min air is entering at 70oF in a reciprocating


compressor and atmospheric pressure is to be compressed to 4000 lb f/in.2. How
many stages should be used? What is the theoretical shaft work per standard cubic
foot for frictionless adiabatic compression? What is the brake horsepower if the
efficiency of each stage is 85%? For air ϒ= 1.39
