PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2

Professional Development Plan

It’s been an exited road towards becoming a nurse. I see myself as a professional that can

care for others while taking care for myself in the process. This professional development plan is

an idea of what I expect for my career and what I know I need to do to advance in my goals.

My goals for the next 6 months are focused on gaining experience as a registered nurse; I

want to start working in hospital whit high standards of care, where I can apply all that I have

learned through lectures and clinical experience. Also, in the first six months, I plan to acquire

and strengthen some professional competencies. According to different authors cited in Fukada

(2018), nurses develop certain competencies that include a mixture of judgment, skills, values

and attitude. Professional competencies that I plan to obtain in the next six months are ability to

understand people’s situations, ability to provide patient- centered care and ability to improve

quality of nursing.

In order to accomplish my short-term goals, I will start a job in a health institution that

provides me with a wide variety of experiences and where I encounter all types of population and

cultures. I will put all my efforts to care for my patients and be openminded and creative to apply

the best and more efficient techniques at the bed side. Likewise, I will have the support of

evidence-based practice which will allow me to provide efficient, timely, and quality care

(Potter, Perry, Stockert, & Hall, 2017). I would love to start my journey as a nurse as soon as

possible, deepening myself in the world of health care.

My goals for the next three years are to finish mine bachelor’s degree; also, to continue

updating myself in the last technology and techniques. I want to become a more powerful woman

who can empower people about their health. I want to be a nurse that not only treat disease but

that promotes health both physical and mental. I believe that peace of mind plays a big role in the

state of our bodies.

I plan to achieve my goals in the next three years by researching and choosing a higher-

level institution to complete my studies. Furthermore, I will continue to use my daily meditation

practice as a way to ground myself and connect with my deepest desires; I believe that

connecting with my clients is easier and most genuine if I am connected with my own soul.

Research is part of my routine already and to gain more knowledge in evidence-based practice, I

will complete continued education units not only as requirement for renewal of my license but to

strengthen my knowledge in relevant topic.

In 10 years, I see myself as a nurse midwife. I will be helping moms, dads, and the whole

family in the journey of giving life. Pregnancy is a transformation process for all of the ones

involved in it and I will be partner and a facilitator in the birthing of new lives.

I will be part of the American Nurses Association (ANA) and American College of

Nurses Midwifes (ACNM). Also, I believe that by taking care of myself I can take care for

others better. For that reason, the transcendental meditation for women is a method that I think

could help with the burnout that nurses experience (Transcendental Meditation for Women,

2020).

I base the Standards and Scope of Practice of the Nurses in my future career in the Nurse

Practice Act in Florida. Some of these standards and Scope of practice include: the nurse will

practice professional nursing applying “substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and

nursing skill based upon applied principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social

sciences” (Online Sunshine, 2020). As a nurse I will follow the nursing process by assessing,

diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating. I will administer medications and perform

all the procedures that are prescribed and authorized by a licensed practitioner following the

scope of practice of his/her field. I will supervise and teach patients and other personnel tasks

and procedures that are withing my scope of practice.

In order to get certified requirements, include complete an approved nursing educational

program and obtain a registered nurse license. To achieve my certification, I am planning on

seating to take the licensure examination or NCLEX. I will make sure that I have proficiency in

all the topics relevant to become a registered nurse. Lastly, regarding certifications I hold a Basic

Life Support Certificate BLS.

I am enjoying my present and looking forward to a future full of learnings and

challenges. I am exited of the obstacles that I overcame and the discovery of such a wide

profession as is nursing; and of course, to finally start making a difference in peoples lives from

the care of their health.
