can i create a VM in free account , do i get bill

Yes you can. You won't be billed on a free subscription until you upgrade to a PAYG account
however once your free Azure credits run out, the services you have deployed will be suspended
from running until you upgrade :)

GCP is betting on Kubernetes,

Kubernetes is an open-source project. Cloud providers like Azure, AWS, GCP have taken Kubernetes
and released their version so that it runs on cloud infrastructure :)

When you create a VM on Azure, is it automatiqcally assigned a public IP Address?

Yes :)

what the share % of kubernetes workloads running on azure AKS?

You can run all your container kubernetes workload on Azure through AKS. Azure provides the
underlying compute, storage etc

what is better CAPEX or OPEX?

Capital Expenditure or CapEx is about spending money on physical infrastructure. The upfront cost is
very expensive however you can deduct depreciation expense from your tax bill over time. But
because the capital depreciates, you lose value of that capital over time as well. Operational
Expenditure or OpEx is about spending money on services as you need them or as you use them.
There is no upfront cost because you don't have to buy any capital upfront. You simply pay for the
services that you use or consume.

Private IP address VM ware want to commucate with internet whicg gateways it uses?
If you want your VM to be able to communicate with the internet, you will need to set the
inbound/outbound rule to allow for internet traffic. I believe the ports use are 80 for HTTP and 443
for HTTPS :)

Does Azure offer On-prem Cloud service as well?

Azure can be extended to run on-premises. Check out Azure Stack for more
information: [Link]

private cloud means i have my servers in physical data centers ? how can i access it through
cloud ? confused a little about this type
Yes you are right. You will access the resources like you would traditionally with any on-premises
services :)
Comments-vm: sorry for typo
If you want to give feedback or comments on any of the Azure services, you can do this through the
Azure portal :)

If i want to setup site to site VPN which basics components are required?
You will need to install the VPN gateway device on your on-premises environment and connect that
to VPN gateway service in your Azure environment. For more information,
see: [Link]
resource-manager-portal

Why Azure is not working on Oracle database and Postgresql database like other cloud
services?
We do support PostgreSQL, see: [Link] :)

how good is azure service with linux or other servers?

You can spin up VMs, containers, apps, etc running either Windows OS or Linux OS. Azure has
support for multiple OS and platforms :)

So , accessing my portal which is hosted in my data center from external network is

considered type of private cloud ?
Nope. If you are accessing the Azure portal from any network, you are accessing the public cloud
(e.g. Azure) :)

azure in cyer security field

We will go into more details about security in module 3 but Azure has many security services. Check
out this link for more information: [Link]

How does PaaS address app compatibility and security? Is there a rollback option?
For services such as App Service, there is multiple support for languages, runtime, etc. There are also
many ways to secure the apps that you deploy. Check out this link for more
info: [Link]

Do we need to put credit card details for creating vm from free account for practice purpose?
You will need to use a credit card to sign up for an Azure account but you won't be charged for
anything if you are using a free subscription :)

In Paas Services, for Apps patching who will be responsibility? Microsoft or Customer?
Microsoft :) You will still need to look after the code but everything else is taken care of by Azure

Under which core service Postgresql database service comes?

Check out the overview for Azure PostgreSQL: [Link]
us/services/postgresql/

Is it possible to build disaster recovery site for oracle database in azure if yes , how ?
Yes, you can choose any of the 56 regions we have to deploy a secondary Oracle DB as your
secondary region. You can use a range of services like Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup to
replicate to the secondary DB. For more info, see: [Link]
machines/workloads/oracle/oracle-overview

Will there be any difference between older and newer hardware??

Yes, usually this will be reflected in terms of the price/cost of which type of hardware you choose to
deploy to :)

When selecting a region, how do you know what features are available?
When you deploy a service, if that service is not made available in that region, it will be greyed out.

Can i have the free voucher to sit in AZ900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Exam?
You will receive this voucher after today's session :)

Express route is a dedicated leased line to Azure DC in our region ?

Yes, express route is a physical connection from your on-premises to Azure :)

Can you extend your APNIC address space into Azure so you don't use automatically assigned
public IPs but your own?
Yes, check out subnet extension for more info: [Link]
network/subnet-extension

The VM services price are same over different regions or same of azure cloud resources?
Some services may have different price/cost depending on which region you choose to deploy to

help me understand the difference between scale up, down, out and in... its confusing
Scale up/down: increasing or decreasing CPU, disk, etc Scale out/in: adding or removing instances

In Ireland datacenters are not 300 miles away? So there could be issues in case of any natural
disaster?
We have several regions in the Europe geography so they will be far enough apart to cover for DR
scenarios. Check out: [Link]

Could you please explain VMs Limit per region ? vms mb2 , ds ?
For VM limits, see: [Link]
manager/management/azure-subscription-service-limits#virtual-machines-limits

how to two Racks are connected inside a database ?

Via networking :)

MS just announced the NZ region. when will NZ datacenter be available? how many
datacenters be built as part of the new region?
This will be announced when it is available :)

if GCP to Kubernetes, Azure to what?

The Kubernetes offering in Azure is called AKS. Check out: [Link]
au/services/kubernetes-service/

my question was related to payment gateway with regard B2B vs B2C?

Stay tuned for module 3 where we will cover Azure AD (B2B and B2C) services :)

what is SLA with regard to compute service?

SLAs vary across different services. Check out: [Link]
for the specific SLAs to compute services.

So zones span DCs and sets span a single DC for resiliency purposes at a high level?
Yes you are right :)
who creates availability sets and availability zone ?
You have to create the Availability Zone/Set to deploy your VMs to :)

does azure free account give resources which are part of azure premium 1 and 2 as some labs
require resources from those licenses?
The free subscription gives your $200 USD free Azure credits which you can choose to use for
deployment of any services in any tier however the premium tiers usually have a higher pricing/cost
so you will find that credit will run out pretty quickly if you are deployment premium tier services.

zone will be prrsent in 2-3 separate data centres in dublin and sets will be in 1 of the data
centres in dublin as an example?
Yes, except zones need to have 3 or more physically separate DCs for availability zones to be made
available to a particular region :)

Can i create a VPC in Azure like AWS ,if not whats the alternative
Yes check out Azure Stack for more info: [Link] :)

Which regions are there in Africa?

South Africa North and South Africa West :)

What is the main difference between Availability zone and Availability set?
Availability zone is 3 physically separated datacentres within a region which means power, cooling,
and network are separated which means if one zone has a hardware outage, the other zones will
continue to run. Availability set is a group of 2 more VM instances that are stored on separate
physical hardware (e.g. a different server or rack) in the same datacentre.

what is azure active directory exactly ?

Azure AD is the identity management service. We will go into more details about Azure AD in
module 3 so stay tuned :)

How many availability zones are there in a region? and how many data centers are there
within in single availability zone?
There must be at least 3 DCs in a region for availability zone to be available within a region :)

are we going to take break for 5 mints in first session ?

I don't believe so, I think we're running the first three hours and then there's a 90 minute break and
then the next three hours. .... Ha - I stand corrected, break now for 10 minutes! Enjoy!

hello do you have the agenda to today's 2 sessions? thanks

Today we will be covering 4 modules. Module 1 which we just covered goes over core cloud
computing concepts. Module 2 will dive into some of the main Azure products and services. Module
3 will cover security, identity, compliance, trust. And Module 4 will cover pricing and support
options :)

Choice of region make any difference in cost ?

Yes, some Azure services will vary in costs depending on which region you choose to deploy it to.

can we get clear hierarchy between region, geography, AD please

Check this out, it will help define a hierarchy for you: [Link]
us/azure/availability-zones/az-overview

do you support encryption at rest and in transit also i.e for migration purpose ?
Yes we do :)

Will there be discussion on Fabric Controller and Orchestrator?

We won't deep dive into anything specific but if you want more info on Service Fabric vs. AKS, check
out these two links: [Link]
overview [Link]

An organization that hosts its infrastructure in a public cloud can decommission its data
center?
Technically yes if you are not hosting/running anything on-premises i.e. you have done a full
migration to the cloud

What are Fault domain and upgrade domains?

Fault domain: a group of virtual machines that share the same power and networking. Think of it like
the same rack of servers. It protects against an outage on a single server but not a full rack. Update
domain: a group of virtual machines that will be rebooted/updated at the same time. This ensures
not all your running instances will undergo updates and maintenance at the same time. This a pretty
good diagram to help you visualize the differences: [Link]
us/azure/includes/media/virtual-machines-common-manage-availability/[Link]

Is this the end of module 2?

Not yet, module 2 is pretty big as we are covering quite a few Azure services :)

If I create VMs under Availability Zone and select update tolerance what if, if new update
affect my application running on that VM. How will it switch to another VM which is still
running older version
AZ is really about deploying your VM instances to 3 separate physical DCs within the same region for
zone redundancy. For update/fault tolerance, they need to be part of an Availability Set :)

whats difference between App Service and Functions

App Service allows you to deploy a fully functional application. Functions provides you the compute
and runtime to execute some code :)

Resource Groups (RG) is same as compartments that exist in Oracle Cloud? Just trying to get
the comparison in my mind :)
Resource groups are just a logical container to group your Azure resources that share the same
development lifecycle :)

can you clarify availability zone and set ?

Availability zone is 3 physically separated datacentres within a region which means power, cooling,
and network are separated which means if one zone has a hardware outage, the other zones will
continue to run. Availability set is a group of 2 more VM instances that are stored on separate
physical hardware (e.g. a different server or rack) in the same datacentre.

Any report where we can see all assets for a subscription

Yes, a good way to do this is to use tags which we will cover in module 3 :)

did you recommend to take AZ-103 or wait for AZ-104.

Up to you - AZ-104 will be refreshed content :)

Does Azure pricing/invoice categorize by resource groups?

You can drill down to see the costs per resource group however your bill will come from your overall
Azure subscription total, not per resource group :)

you mentioned about subscriptions, how you handle 3rd party subscriptions?
An Azure subscription is essentially the billing account tied to your (or a group of) Azure accounts.
3rd party services will have their own cost model and this will not be covered by Azure.

will this session is recorded and available later ?

Unfortunately we will not be providing recordings or slides, please see [Link]/azfunpath for a full
review of the course content :)

Is it enough to sit the exam after this webinar or do we need more preparation?
We will cover a majority of the content in the exam however if you want to further extend your
learning, go to: [Link]/azfunpath :)

is it require to leaern from ap services free training for the 900 exam
Yes, you should know what App Service is for the exam.

what is difference between subscription and tenants?

A subscription is your billing account. A tenant represents an organization in which a bunch of Azure
accounts (users) are tied to.

How can I get the voucher for the exam?

You will be emailed the exam voucher after today's session :)

Will we receive documentation regarding the course or do we need to take notes?

Check out: [Link]/azfunpath

can we get this ppt ? for notes ?

We won't be sharing slides but you can find all the course material at: [Link]/azfunpath

Has the course been updated to give an overview of Synapse Analytics as well
We will talk about the Azure data services in a bit (by the way, Synapse was previously Azure SQL
DW) :)

Is this still Module 2?

Yes :)

Will we get any subjective questions or lab questions in AZ-900 exam?

This won't be a hands-on lab exam but you might get questions on some of the demos we go
through today :)

Can i add a VM to an availability zone/set after it has been created?

Yes :)

So just to check, all the important information from today will be on the Azure Fundamentals
learning path?
Yes :)

Does azure support configuration based builds using chef, puppet etc? What is the service?
Yes, check out Azure Pipelines which is part of Azure DevOps: [Link]
us/services/devops/pipelines/
whats difference between premium ssd and stnadard ssd ?
Usually the difference is different IOPS (read/write performance) and latency. More info on the
differences in disk type, see: [Link]
machines/windows/disks-types

How to allow azure resources to connect sharepoint

You can use something like Logic Apps. More info here: [Link]
us/azure/connectors/connectors-create-api-sharepoint

Hi,can we geta link to this course slide show?

We won't be sharing slides but you can review all the content at: [Link]/azfunpath

any network issue ?

The presentation is still running, Mobashir, let us know if you can't see it!

This is a recording?
No, we won't be providing video recordings but you can review all the course material at:
[Link]/azfunpath

I can see . but sometimes issue for 1 or half seconds

This could also be because of your connection as well, feel free to rejoin if you're having prolonged
issues!

Can we have auto turn ON feature :) ?

There isn't a "turn-on" feature as such but you can script it to auto-start VMs :)

like autoshutdown feature, do we have inverse of it ?

Not quite but you can script it to auto turn on a VM :) Check out Azure
Automation: [Link]
management

what is JSON ?
JavaScript Object Notation :) It's a way of storing information and exchange data.

Whats the difference between the JSON template and an ARM template?
ARM templates are declared as JSON files :)

I want to do with az200 certification

Great to hear! For all the certifications and exams on Azure, check
out: [Link]

With the templates being created during the esample shown, is there an automated way to
genericize that template?
ARM templates - these are automatically created as you deploy via the portal, you can download,
modify it and make it more general :)

After Azure VM training we shall get Free Azure subscription for On-hand lab practice?
No, there is no hands-on lab subscription provided. You can sign up for a free Azure account and if
you want to go through these labs in your own time, you can find all the labs at: [Link]/az900labs

can i change the JSAON format to any other format like bash or phython
ARM templates are accepted as JSON files only but you can use bash or even python to script and
run these files.

How long the AZ-900 exam is please?

Roughly 60 mins :)

How can we change the interface of a VM, so we can move it to another subnet if needed
You can assign more than one network interface card per VM and attach that to another subnet :)

where does the Docker stand in VMs?

Docker is a container engine which allows you to run Docker containers. In Azure, container services
are Azure Container Instance (ACI) and Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS) which Matt is going over
now :)

How many questions for AZ-900?

Roughly 45 questions :)

how many questions will come in exam?

Roughly 45 :)

what does template mean in azure ?

ARM templates - these are your virtual infrastructure declared as code in JSON. This means you can
re-use templates to make the same deployments or automate deployments, etc.

what is the roadmap for Azure architect professional examinations?

Check out: [Link]

Is the exam technical? I.e are we expected to create resources/resource groups etc?
You won't have labs in the exam however technical knowledge is expected e.g. you need to know
what resource groups are

Are ACI and Docker containers interchangeable?

ACI allows you to run containers - its the compute provided for your containers which means you
can spin up hundred and thousands of containers if you need.

Could you elaborate a bit more on the structure of the AZ-900 exam? E.g. are the questions
open-ended or multi-choice? Is it timed or can you take as long as you need? Thanks!
A majority will be MCQs, you will be roughly 45 questions covering all the content we go through
today and more. You should aim to finish the exam within 60 minutes :)

Is there any available resource to practice questions like the ones we will find in the exam?
We do not provide any practice exams but you can review all the content at: [Link]/azfunpath

Can you tell me instructor names again?

Matt and Garrett :)

please share the chat transcript after the session if possible. we got many important link of
resources and doubt which you solved. Thanks
I don't believe we're able to do that, I suggest you copy the links you would like to keep, we do have
resources, plenty of them, but they might not all be the same
e.g.[Link] and this is useful too: [Link]
Load balancer is l3/l4 or application level LB ?
Azure LB is layer 4: [Link]
overview The application LB is called Application Gateway :)

Does vNet Peering use an IPSec VPN Tunnel?

IPSec/IKEv2 is supported :) For the full list, see: [Link]
gateway/vpn-gateway-ipsecikepolicy-rm-powershell#part-2---supported-cryptographic-algorithms--
key-strengths

So in general, to connect with azure ad and on prem ad do we need to be on VPN.?

There is two ways. You can use express route which is a physical connection to Azure or you can use
VPN gateway which sends encrypted traffic over the public internet.

what is full name for instructor?

Matt Hester and Garrett Bundy :)

what's the retention policy around SQL DB ?

Default is 7 days, you can increase it up to 35 days

when is the next break?

We will have a lunch break in roughly half an hour but you can go grab a snack/drink or go to the
bathroom if you need to :)

Is there a diagram that easily explains redundancy zones?

No diagram as such but this contains pretty much all the redundancy options for
storage: [Link]

I seem to remember that RA-GRS's replicated copy was only readable in the event that the
primary zone went down and Microsoft explicitly made the decision to make the secondary
copy readable. Has that changed?
Yes you're right. You can only read from the secondary region. No this has not changed.

do we need to remember the pricing of different resources ?

No you won't be questioned on the specific pricing/costs of each resource.

Can you use different domain names in the resources?

You can set custom domain names for some resources like web apps. The storage account url is
essentially the url you use to access the data stored in that storage account.

did you noted my attendance for the event :)

Yes, if you are seeing the session right now your attendance will be taken into account :)

what is the recovery time objective metric for a VM in general?

With Azure Site Recovery, you can have RTO as low as 30 seconds. You can use Azure Traffic
Manager to reduce RTO even further if you need :)

what are azure data services ?

when are you going to have a break?

Shortly, in less than half an hour we will break for lunch and then come back for session 2 :)

what are azure data services ?

This can range from databases from SQL, NoSQL, open-source databases to big data such as Data
Lakes, data analytics services, etc. Matt and Garrett are going through some of them now :)

Do we have any monitoring in AZURE platform ? which covers Configuration management ,

fault management , network management ?
Yes, we have a service called Azure Monitor which covers many varieties of monitoring. For more
info, check out: [Link]

Do we have alert system in Azure Platform?

Yes you can set up alerts to notify you on certain things :)

are the alerts at what's app or twitter level in azure platform?

You can check out Azure Status ([Link] to stay up to date with Azure
services. We do have a Twitter account as well. We'll go into more details about this in Module 4 :)

Do we have to be familiar with the services that Matt just went over? e.g. AI services, big data
and analytics, database services, etc? How much do we need to know about them especially if
we've never used them before?
Yes. You will need to know them on a high-level, not too in-depth but if you get asked questions
such as what can be used for this or what is this particular service used for, you will need to know
how to answer questions like that :)

Difference between Powershell and Cloud Shell?

Cloud shell allows your to write both CLI and Powershell commands from the Azure portal.
Powershell is a scripting language you can use from any Windows OS platform :)

What's the url for the resources? Are any practice exams available? What happens if we fail the
exam the first time?
Check out: [Link]/azfunpath :) Nothing (bad) will happen, you can re-sit the exam if you fail.
