Beep Codes: Beep Codes Beep Code Description Beep Codes Beep Code Description

The document describes beep codes that may occur during the initial power-on self-test (POST) of a computer. A pattern of beeps, like one beep followed by two beeps then three beeps (1-1-3), indicates the computer was unable to read data from non-volatile memory. If the system constantly beeps when power is turned back on, the BIOS is likely corrupted. Tables then list various beep codes and their descriptions, indicating what component or test is associated with each pattern of beeps.

Beep Codes

The initial POST sequence may not have a any video displayed and a pattern of beep codes
may be heard. For example, one beep, followed by a second beep, and then a burst of three
beeps (code 1-1-3) indicates that the computer was unable to read the data in non-volatile
random-access memory (NVRAM).

If the system loses power and beeps constantly when you turn it back on, the BIOS is probably
corrupted.
