Learning and Reflection Journals : Why And How
My first of the many seminar series I attended was Learning and Reflective Journals : Why and
How delivered by Ir. DR ZAKI YAMANI [Link] attending the seminar, it dawned upon me
that reflective journal is actually a platform where I could write everything from my point of
perspective to help me identify the important events that had happened in my [Link] purpose
of reflective writing is to help me learn from a particular practical experience and make
connections between what I have been taught in theory and what I need to do in practice. I
reflect to learn. Be it a good or bad [Link] how do I do it? I need to understand the things
that have happened and why it happened this way.I need to be honest in order for the
reflection journal to be effective.I need to have my own to align future actions with my values
and lessons learned from your past [Link] well as share and get my thoughts and ideas
out of my head.
How To Use Google for Information Searching
Now this is my favourite of all seminars. How To Use Google for Information Searching was
presented by Dr Azizul Azri Mustaffa on 2nd October 2019.
And why?I know for a fact almost all students use Google for Information Search including
[Link] gathering or searching can be done using technical methods that totally relies
on computer-aided techniques for collecting information. It is said that the internet never
forgets. If I want to search for something, knowing the right way to ask will get me almost all
the information I [Link], Google, the dominant search engine is a key tool to answer to all
my [Link] how do we do it?
DIRECTORIES VS. SEARCH ENGINES
If you have a general idea of the subject in which you're interested,
but are not sure exactly what you're looking for, a directory is a great place to start.
CHOOSING KEYWORDS
For the best results from a search engine, it's important to choose
your keywords [Link] finally,
READING THE RESULTS
Search engines put the most relevant results first, so if what you want is not in the top listings,
try again with more specific keywords.
Or, narrow your search by adding more keywords. Google returns
only pages containing all the keywords you use, so adding more keywords eliminates less
relevant pages. To get more results, use
more general keywords or include fewer search terms.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At seminar no 5 held on 9 october these are my conclusion I derived from my point of
[Link] communication skills are abilities that allow me to understand and be
understood by others. It means communicating ideas, feelings or what that is happening
around [Link] are different types of effective communication skills which I can learn and
practice to help me become an effective communicator. It mainly involve listening, speaking,
observing and empathizing but it is also helpful to understand the differences in how to
communicate through face-to-face interactions, phone conversations and digital
communications, like email and social [Link] of these skills work together, making it
important to practice communication skills in different contexts whenever [Link]
experience and practice, I can learn and improve on effectivecommunication skills where I start
by identifying my strengths and then practice and develop those areas.
Sungai Skudai : Sharing Experience with MBIP
My perspective of Sungai Skudai which was the main topic discussed with En. Safwan bin Sahari
from MBIP at the No xxxxx seminar just [Link] the millions pumped in by MBIP and its
cooperation with UTM to make it a sustainable clean water source for living space, it is very
mclear the fate of Sungai Skudai will never be better so long as the community and the
government do not do anything about [Link] we know that river needs a lot of work in order to
improve the pollution in the river itself and its surrounding area. Both the government and the
community have to work hand in hand to better its condition to move forward to it being
sustainable for all purposes. The community have to be made aware of the impact to the river
due to their lack of civic conciousness while the Government have to start imposing stricter
punishments for both the community and industrial sectors if they continue being ignorant by
dumping wastes in the river. We can also adopt method applied from the River Thames and
River Ganga to achieve sustainability of Sungai [Link] that achieved, we then may be able
to hope for a better and less polluted River Skudai for it to continue to be a major source of
water for the people in and around the area.
Effective Public Speaking Skills.
To my understanding effective public speaking is an important skill in communicating
knowledge and expressing ideas to groups of people in the seminar delivered by Dr. Abdullah
bin Mohd Nawi recently on the subject matter recently. Like speaking itself, public speaking is a
learned behavior. Just as no one comes out of the womb speaking eloquently, no one becomes
a powerful orator without [Link] speech delivery is crucial to public speaking, as it
allows you to showcase your work and communicate with confidence. No matter how much
time you've spent perfecting your message, no one will hear it if you are unable to engage your
audience and handle on-the-spot [Link] is essential to have effective public speaking
skills as a primary medium for presenting and selling your products and ideas convincingly. As
well to speak effectively to other individuals or to groups be it in school, business, as well as
your personal life. "An effective speaker knows that the success or failure of his talk is not for
him to decide—it will be decided in the minds and hearts of his hearers." ~ Dale Carnegie
Effective Report Writing
Held on October 16, 2019 and delivered by Dr. Muhammad Arif Ab Aziz, I personally find this
seminar on Effective Report Writing [Link] why?
Some academic assignments ask for a ‘report’, rather than an essay, and students like me are
often confused about what that really [Link] what is actually needed here? Report or
essays? In the academics environment there is some overlap between reports and essays, and
the two words are sometimes used interchangeably, but reports are more likely to be needed
for scientific and technical subjects. And how to write effective reports? In my opinion and
based on my understanding during the seminar, a good report should essentially be a short,
sharp, concise document which is written for a particular purpose and audience.
The essentials of report writing skills are as follows-
1. Know your objective, i.e., be focused.
2. Analyze the audience, i.e. the purpose for which audience requires the report, kind of data
audience is looking for in the report.
3. Decide the length of report.
4. Disclose correct and true information in a report. Include all relevant facts in a report.
5. Pre-decide the report writing style.
The report should be neatly presented and should be carefully documented.
6. Concentrate on the report structure, format and matter.
7. Attempt to generate reader’s interest by making appropriate paragraphs, giving bold
headings for each paragraph, using bullets wherever required, etc.
8. Highlight and recap the main message in a report.
9. Use graphs, pie-charts, etc to show the numerical data records over years.
10.. Encourage feedback on the report from the critics. Any feed back negative or positive, if
properly supported can be useful to modify the report.
And finally an executive summary.
