DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
Precast concrete work shall be designed to

> For Normal Weight Concrete Minimum 28-days shall be 35 Mpa (5,000 psi)
> For Light Weight Concrete Minimum 28-days shall be 35 Mpa (5,000 psi)
Compressive Strenght - Air Dry Density, not less than 14.1 KN/m³
not more than 18.1 KN/m³
> Water Cement Ratio (w/c) - 0.40
Compressive Strenght for release or stripping prestressing > Non-Prestressed Units - Minimum 14 Mpa (2,000 psi)
strands > Prestressed Units - Minimum 24 Mpa (3,500 psi)
> Non-Shrink, Non-Metallic, Pre-Mixed Grout
- Compressive Strength no less than 35 Mpa (5,000 psi)
Grout > For Hollow-Core Slab

Concrete Cover > Shall be as per ACI 318 "Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete"
> Shall be in accordance of PCI-MNL-135 "Tolerance Manual for Precast and

> Shall be in accordance of PCI-MNL-120 "PCI Design Handbook, Precast and

MATERIALS REQUIREMENTS
> Shall be in accordance with SAES-Q-001 "Criteria for Design and Construction of
Cement Concrete Structures"
> Cement Content for Precast shall be minimum 370 kg/m³, no maximum
Aggregates > Shall be in accordance with 09-SAMSS-088 "Aggregates for Concrete"
> Shall be in accordance with 09-SAMSS-097 "Ready-Mixed Portland Cement
Water & Admixtures Concrete"
> Calcium Chloride as an admixture shall not be used in precast and prestressed
concrete
> Shall be in accordance with SAES-Q-010 "Cement Based, Non-Shrink Grout for
Non-Shrink Grout
Structural and Equipment Grouting"
> Portland cement, and clean, natural sand; mix at ratio of 1 part cement to 2-½ to
Sand-Cement Grout
3 parts sand,
> Shall conform to ASTM A615/A615M Grade 60 (422 Mpa)
> Coated Reinforcement shall be Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) as per 09-SAMSS-106 "
Reinforcing Bars
Epoxy Coating of Steel Reinforcing Bars"
> Tie Wire, 16 gauge (1.29mm) minimum, and shall PVC Coated
> 7-wire strands shall be uncoated
> Minimum strength of 250,000 psi (Grade 250) unless Grade 270 is indicated
> Epoxy Coated strands shall not be used prestressed concrete
Prestressing Tendons
Formwork Construction > Shall be in accordance with ACI 347R and Saudi Aramco Construction Safety Manual
Connection Material > Plates and Shape shall be hot-dip galvanized
FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS

> Approval shall be in accordance with SAEP-385 "Preservation of Project Materials

> Coated with two (2) coats of coal tar or bitumen coating that conforms to APCS-3
All concrete surfaces in direct conctact with earth

> Wall Panels - shall not exceed 3mm (1/8 inch), maximum bowing shall not exceed
1/360 of panel length to a maximum of 25mm
> Differential Camber bet. adjacent members - shall not exceed 10mm (3/8 inch)
Dimensional Tolerances
> Differential camber between adjacent members for Prestressed Concrete
Double Tees shall not exceed 6 mm (¼ of an inch) for un-topped members
and 6 mm/3 m (to a maximum of 19 mm) for topped members
Chamfers for Precast & Prestressed Units > 25mm shall be provided at exposed edges
Finishing > All lifting devises shall be recessed
> Steam Curing for Precast Concrete
Curing > Water shall be in accordance with SAES-Q-001 "Criteria for Design and Construction
of Concrete Structure"
> Submit for approval 400 mm by 400 mm by 40 mm (16 in. by 16 in. by 1-¾ in.)
Reference Sample
samples of precast concrete units.
DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING OF MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
> Shall be lifted and supported only at the lifting and support points
> A repair procedure shall be prepared by the precast manufacturer
Precast and Prestressed Concrete Members > Members shall be kept free of mud and other damaging materials at all times
> Store and transport members in a manner to prevent the occurrence of excessive
stresses, distorting, warping, cracking or staining
ERECTION REQUIREMENTS
> PCI-MNL-127 [Erector's Manual: Standard and Guidelines for the Erection of Precast

> PCI-MNL-132 [Erection Safety Manual for Precast and Prestressed Concrete]
Installation of Precast Foundation > Shall comply with SAES-Q-005 "Concrete Foundation"
> All precast members shall be installed in proper sequence and adequate temporary
supports shall be provided to control alignment, deflection, and stress levels
Precast Members
> Grouting should be conducted in accordance with PCI MNL-127.
> Precast units shall be lifted only from the lifting points shown on the shop drawings
> Field cutting or drilling holes of precast units is not allowed unless reviewed and
supported by structural calculations
Field-Placed Inserts > If supported with approved structural calculations:
- field cutting openings in the flanges of double tees to be limited to one 600 mm by
600 mm (2'-0” by 2'-0”) opening per panel
- shall be limited to 250 mm (10-inch) round opening

> Precast units may be rejected for any of the following:
- Defects as listed in PCI MNL-116, as applicable
Performance Evaluation - Surfaces with finish deficiencies
- Damage during lifting, transporting, and construction operations
- Dimensional variations exceeding the required tolerances
