Codification of Al-Quran History

The history of codification of the Quran began in 610 CE when the first revelations were received by the Prophet Muhammad. During his lifetime, revelations were transmitted orally and written down on various materials. After the Prophet's death in 632 CE, Zaid bin Thabit compiled the Quran into written form under the order of Caliph Abu Bakr, gathering revelations from both memories and written sources. Under Caliph Uthman, Zaid and others produced standardized copies of the Quran in the 650s CE to resolve disputes over recitation, which were then distributed widely.
