General Guidelines
• The What’s What series aims to achieve the educational ideal of having fun while learning.
• This book is divided into ten thematic sections and has forty-seven chapters. You can try different techniques
or methods to teach them.
• There are several descriptive chapters in the book, like ‘A Tortoise Superstar’, ‘Nek Chand’s Wonderland’,
‘Rise of the Machines’, ‘3D Printing’, etc. Explain each chapter thoroughly with examples so that the students
will understand it better. Always give some additional information.
• When you teach the chapter ‘Unique Festivals’ ask the students to form small groups. Each group should
discuss all the answers. After that ask questions to any member of any group.
• When you teach the chapter ‘First Aid’ explain to the students the importance of first aid and the urgency of
its nature. Explain to them why it has to be delivered timely on the sick or injured victim.
• While teaching the students the chapter ‘Choice Is Yours’, conduct a class discussion on stereotypes. Give
different scenarios revolving around the theme and ask the students to pick the biased statements in them.
Teach them to not make generalizations or to discriminate.
• When teaching the chapter ‘Body Language’, pick students from the class to perform each one of the given
actions before the class and make them guess the emotions.
• There is a biography on Hayao Miyazaki in the book. Talk to the students about animation and its various
styles. Bring some manga comic books to class, show them to students and talk to them about the anime
in it. Show them Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning film Spirited Away and discuss the Japanese style of
animation with them.
• Once you finish a section, conduct a class test with the help of the revision exercises. You can change some
questions if you want and add your own.
• Always encourage the students to ask questions of any kind. In fact you can have a separate session
for that. If a student is shy, he/she can always write his/her questions and give it to you. Do answer each
question and make the teaching time as enjoyable as you can.
