Civil Works Specifications
SECTION 27 05 43
1.1. SCOPE OF WORK
A. Duct trenches, equipment foundations, bases supports and duct banks, Hand-holes, Man-holes,
concrete covers with lock that is totally sealed against dust and water, lubricants, earth pits, holes,
sleeves, boxes, fittings, supports, anchors, hangers, straps, clamps, bolts, couplers, brackets and
accessories and as required for a complete system.
B. In the shop drawings stage and prior to any installation activity the civil work contractors should
study and coordinate the followings;
1. Ducts trench arrangement against manholes’ opening entrances (center or splayed entry).
2. Details of cable rack supports and hangers inside each type of manholes & hand- holes.
3. Installation producers for ducts and cables.
C. Raceway is required for all wiring unless specifically indicated otherwise.
D. The work covered by these specifications includes installations, all labour necessary, all materials
and equipment incorporated in such installation all services, facilities, tools to perform and complete
such installation and coordination among all trades.
E. Specifications are superseding the bill of quantities in case of conflict.
1.2. PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
A. The performance criteria for components and services specified in this section represent the
minimum level of performance acceptable for system component selection and services.
B. The related standards apply with these specifications are:
1. ANSI/EIA/TIA-758-A&B, Customer-Owned Outside Plant Telecommunications Infrastructure
Standard.
2. ANSI/EIA/TIA-569, Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunication Pathways
and Spaces.
3. EC 60794-6, Blowing Micro-duct cabling for Installation.
4. ANSI/EIA/TIA-570, Residential and Commercial Telecommunications warning Standard.
5. ANSI/EIA/TIA-606, Administration Standard for Telecommunications Infrastructure of
Commercial Buildings.
6. ANSI/EIA/TIA-607, Commercial Building Grounding/Bonding Requirements.
7. BICSI’s Customer-Owned outside Plant.
8. ASTM D 3350 – Standard Specification for Polyethylene Plastics Pipe and Fittings Materials.

12. ASTM D1505 - Standard Test Method for Density of Plastics by the Density-Gradient
Technique.

1.3. SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data
1. Submit manufacturer’s product data sheets for all material and equipment products proposed.
Submittal shall not be considered without a product data sheets including specifications and
installation structures for each type of system components.
2. Data sheets should be marked to show applicable choices and options. Where product data
include information on several products, some of which are not required, mark copies to indicate
the applicable information.
3. Detailed Bill of material indicating the model number and quantity for all of the proposed
equipment.
4. Method of installation to indicate all proposed items in the detailed contractor’s BOQ.
5. Samples: Submit samples from all materials & accessories included in your proposal.
6. The Contractor shall submit a point-by-point statement of compliance with all relevant sections
defined herein. The statement of compliance shall consist of a list of all numbered paragraphs
within these sections;
Where the proposed system complies fully with the numbered paragraphs as written, the
word "comply" shall be placed opposite the paragraph number.
Where the proposed system does not comply with the paragraph as written, but the
Contractor feels it will accomplish the intent of the paragraph in a manner different from
that described, a full description of the intent perceived by the Contractor shall be
provided as well as a full description of how the proposal will meet its perceived intent.
Where a full description is not provided, it shall be assumed that the proposed system
does not comply with the paragraph in question.
Any submission that does not include a point-by-point statement of compliance as
described herein shall be disqualified.
Documentation in support of substitute equipment shall qualify all parameters with
tangible values in the response notations or on the manufactures original data sheets and
shall not include vague statements such as “limitless” or “virtually limitless”.
Submission documents using this type of statement shall be considered non-compliant.
B. Shop Drawings
1. Individual shop drawing submittals shall be provided for each material, system or equipment as
identified herein. Submittals provided other than in this manner will be returned without review.
2. Acceptance of any submitted data or shop drawings for material, equipment apparatus, devices,
arrangement and layout shall not relieve Contractor from responsibility of furnishing same of
proper dimensions and weight, capacities, sizes, quantity, quality and installation details toper
form efficiently the requirements and intent of the Contract. Such acceptance shall not relieve
Contractor from responsibility for errors, omissions or inadequacies of any sort on submitted
data or shop drawings.

3. Installation details for various types of ducts used Identifying the number of tube couplings, tube
plugs, and tube caps.
4. Civil works and ABF cabling system contractors should ensure full co-ordination as indicated in
item (1.4/B)
C. AS BUILT Drawings
The contractor must provide the AS-Built Drawings ensuring the co-ordination of all other
services located along the route.
AS-Built Drawings should be recorded and define the exact co-ordinates of primary, branches and
all ABF system components.
1.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Acceptable manufactures: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of raceway systems, boxes and
fittings of types and sizes required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service
for not less than 5 years as approved by Engineer.
B. Standards Compliance: Comply with requirements of Project Service Provider, applicable local
codes and approved standards and at least conforming to one or more of the above listed standards.
C. The Contractor shall establish, a quality control program that will ensure that all material and
methods used in the work will secure the required quality of products and workmanship described
herein or established through the submittal process and the execution of both mock-Up and sample
installations.
D.
The quality control program shall incorporate any tests and installations requested herein. Work not
satisfying the requirements of the contract documents shall be removed, replaced or, with the
approval of the architect, adjusted at no additional cost to the owner.
1.5. DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. The length of the ducts on a drum shall be supplied with a minimum continuous length of 1,000
meter. Additional tolerance of +1% shall be included in the drum length.
B. The supplier shall supply any customized length as required and according to the engineer
requirements in the site.
C. The following detail shall be marked with white/black letters:
a. Number of ducts.
b. Micro duct size (OD/ID) mm.
c. Manufacturer Name.
d. Year of manufacturing.
e. Sequentially numbered length in meter.
D. The cap shall be made from rubber/suitable plastic material and shall be fitted onto both ends of the
micro ducts coil after manufacturing process to prevent water, dust, mud and dirt into the micro ducts
during transit, storage and installation.
E. The micro ducts shall be proper packaging and adequately protected from damage/deterioration
during shipment, transportation, handling and storage. The drum shall have dimension appropriates
to the micro ducts weight and size. Overall, drum size will depend on the length of the micro ducts
supplied.
F. Any micro ducts that are found damaged shall be replaced without any cost.
G. Deliver materials in manufacturer’s unopened container, fully identified with manufacturer's name,
trade name, type, class, grade, size and colour.
H. Storage of Materials, Equipment and Fixtures:

1. Storage materials suitably sheltered from the elements, but readily accessible for inspection until
installed. Store all items subject to moisture damage in dry, heated spaces. Provide space
requirements for storage in submittals list.
2. Store all materials in a secure fashion to prevent the loss of these materials due to pilferage or
theft.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.1 GENERAL
A. If there are any contradictions between this document and Service Provider standards / applicable
specifications, Service Provider documents will supersede.
B. All telecommunication ducts are to be installed in trenches at minimum depth of 700mm in case of
walkway and 900mm in case of street asphalt.
C. In case of conflict between telecommunication ducts and other utility ducts (sewage, water and
electrical cables), telecommunication ducts could be passed above or beneath these utilities keeping
depth between duct surfaces and street asphalt at least 900mm.
D. Hand-holes should be located at each Tube Distribution Closure splice location/equivalent direct
buried solution.
E. The ducts should be completely sealed
F. The executed shop drawings should ensure the co-ordination of all other services located along the
route.
G. At least 250mm between streets asphalt and marker/warning tape (non-metallic) that must be
placed parallel to the duct runs.
H. The contractor has full responsibility for all civil works and applying safety regulations.
I. Vertical and horizontal spacing between ducts pipes should be used as needed.
2.2 CIVIL WORK
For Structure works and specifications of Man holes, Cabinet holes and Hand holes. Please refer to
section no.03-3300.
A. Manholes, Hand holes and Covers;
1. All covers should be secured and marked with customer name, service provider name, hand
hole/manhole number, .etc.
2. Man-holes/hand holes should be painted with isolated chemical material.
3. All manhole/hand holes should be water and dust sealed.
4. Each Man/hand hole should be equipped with a drainage pipe.
5. Man-holes/Hand holes should not be adjacent to electrical manholes or share any walls.
6. In case of conflict of any item with service provider specifications, the most stringent provision
will govern.
7. Contractor has to submit full details and calculation for the concrete Man-hole.
8. Manholes/Hand holes covers should be concrete type and secured with lock that is totally sealed
against dust and water suitable for the particular application, with two lifting eyes and with ease
mechanism to open and close without damaging the hand- hole edges including all needed
fixation tools and accessories.
9. For exact details and dimensions of Man holes/Hand holes, please refer to project detailed
design drawings.

10. After ducts installations, any unused holes of the Manhole/Hand hole should be completely
sealed with a sealing plug.
11. Fixed or movable ladder could be used inside the manholes.
12. Manholes/hand holes design should be approved by the structural consultant.
13. Civil work contractor in conjunction with cables’ contractor should provide detailed shop
drawings for site supervision engineer for review and approval (as mentioned above in item
1.4/B).
B. Ducts and Sub-Ducts
1. All ducts, sub-ducts and accessories (e.g. couplers, connectors..,etc.) are direct buried. The ducts
shall be constructed of the polymeric materials PE, which are lightweight, flexible, corrosion
resistant and non-conductive.
2. All ducts and sub ducts should be able to withstand at least 10 bars.
3. Ducts are to be nominal size shown on the Drawings.
4. Maintain clearances from other utilities as per local regulations. A minimum clearance of 500
mm is allowed when running parallel with other services and 250 mm when crossing at right
angles.
5. Duct banks should be honed (or covered with 150mm) in concrete at road crossings as per
details drawings.
6. The main ducts shall be suitable with manholes/hand holes openings and shall be multi way to
accommodate ducts as follows: 50mm HDPE
7. Temperature Range:
Storage/Transport: - 40 to +60ºC
Installation: - 20 to +60ºC
Operation: - 40 to +60ºC
8. All unused Micro ducts must be sealed with end-cap.
9. The ducts shall be homogeneous throughout and essentially uniform in colour opacity, density
and other properties. The inside and outside surface shall be free from visible cracks, holes,
blisters, foreign inclusion or other deleterious defect accordance to ASTM F2160 or equivalent
or better standard.
10. The bundled products should be free from defects; inner ducts should not be adhered to or fused
to the sheath. Inner ducts should be completely free once the outer sheath is removed.
11. The ducts shall be capable of being bent 180° over a mandrel (mandrel diameter shall be equal
to or less than 20 times diameter of the micro ducts) and shall be able to be straighten without
any buckling, kinking or permanent ovalization accordance to IEC 60794-5 or equivalent
standards.
12. A coextruded layer on the inner wall of the micro ducts for reducing frictional resistance shall be
permitted. Coextruded layer material shall be compatible with the conduit and any cable
jacketing.
13. The outer sheath shall be easily removed and no further fettling should be necessary to prepare
the inner ducts for jointing.
14. Marking on the ducts shall be legible and a colour that contrast with the colour of the micro
ducts.

15. The outer sheath shall be inkjet printed with marking every meter interval throughout the entire
length of the cable.
16. The markings shall be durable and easily legible under normal handling, storage and be resistant
to abrasion encountered during micro ducts placement.
C. Warning Tape
1. Warning tape width should be 150mm.
2. Warning taps should be supplied in standard 300 m lengths “different lengths should be
presented by the contractor.
3. All end caps should be of IP68.
4. End Stops are used to block open duct ends and prevent water and dirt from entering the micro
duct.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Cable trenches: the width is to be as small as practicable with sides vertical. Remove mud, rock
projections, boulders and hard spots from trench bottom and trim level. Inform the Engineer in
advance to give him reasonable opportunity to inspect trench for each section of the work.
B. Directly buried PE ducts: Soft clean sand should be used to line the bottom of the trench till the
height of 10 cm. moreover, it is necessary to insert the warning tap before filling. The rest of trench
should be filled with soft dust.
C. Ends of ducts: All ducts ending in cable manholes or handholes are to be neatly cut and reamed and
set behind chamfered precast concrete duct end blocks or terminated with appropriate bell-mouth
bushing set in concrete wall. Ducts not ending in cable manholes or hand holes are to be properly
capped.
D. Sleeves or ducts in cabinets base: are to be provided, whether shown on the Drawings or not, and in
accordance with approved shop and construction drawings or as instructed by the Engineer. Obtain
approval of sleeve or duct installation prior to concreting.
E. Holes and chases in precast concrete: do not cut or drill precast concrete without prior approval.
F. For main micro ducts 7Y and 24W installation procedure, The Contractor could pass through OR
Bypass the existing man holes according to recommended standard and installation best practise
G. The drums capacity should be studied to avoid unused and material losses.
3.2 INSPECTION AND CLEANING
A. Inspection of duct systems: directly buried ducts are to be inspected in the presence of the
Engineer, before backfilling or concreting the following test should be held:
B. Clean ducts: with stiff bristle brush pulled through each duct prior to pulling in cables.
3.3 TESTING
A. Compression Test:
1. The design of the micro ducts shall be capable of supporting uniformly applied load of 68kgf
(150lbf).
2. This load shall not cause any damage (e.g.: wall cracking, crazing, delaminating or rapture) or
permanent reduction of the original outside diameter greater than 15% after the load is
removed. The test method was conducted accordance to ASTM2412 (or equivalent standard)
with above condition.

B. Flexibility Test:
1. Ten turns of the micro duct bundle shall be wrapped tightly and secure around a mandrel
of diameter 15 times the outer diameter of the micro duct bundle for 30 minutes.
2. The outer and inner diameter of the micro duct in the bundle shall show, under visual
examination without magnification, no damage and no reduction of diameter greater than15%.
