Newton's Laws of Motion Explained

1. Isaac Newton proposed the three laws of motion, which describe the relationship between an object and the forces acting upon it. 2. The first law states that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The second law states that the acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force. The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. 3. Examples of problem solving for each law are provided, involving inertia, acceleration calculations, and analyzing interacting forces between objects.

DISCUSSION FORUM

1. Who proposed the Law of Motion?

- Isaac Newton proposed the Law of Motion.

2. Differentiate the 3 Law of Motion?

- In the first law of motion, an object will not change its motion unless a force acts upon it.
- In the second law, it is stated that the force on an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration.
- Last but not the least, in the third law, when two objects interact, they apply forces to each other of equal
magnitude and opposite direction.

3. Give 3 examples of problem solving for each Law of Motion?

Inertia:
- Given: 63kg of notebooks (50)
240kg of notebooks (50)

Which has more mass than the others?

- Given: A half pack of bonbons inside a box that weights 25kg (50)
A full packed of bonbons inside a box that weights 50kg (50)

What box will move when it gives a force of 50 N

- Given: a wooden chair that weights 35.5kg (60)

a metal chair that weights 65kg (60)

Which chair has more mass than the others?

Acceleration:
- A box has a mass of 2.5 kg and was pushed with a force of 40 N? What is the acceleration of the box?

- What is the mass of the couch of it produces a force of 500 while accelerating at a rate of 4 m/s 2?

- A 2.5kg object accelerated at a constant 6 m/s 2. Estimate the net force needed to accelerate the object.

Interaction:

- A book that weighted 50 N rests on a box. What are the forces acting on the book? What are the reactions to
these forces?
- Given: a man pulling an elephant with a force of 400 N.
How much force is the man exerting on to the elephant? In what direction

- A man pushing himself to the door with a force of 200 N. In what direction?
