Board Replacement Procedure
1. Content
What do you have to take into consideration to prevent error C-4801 or other failures
when replacing data relevant boards.
2. Background
What are Data Relevant boards ?
• Solid State Drive Board > SSDB
• Multifunctional Printer Board > MFPB
• Printer Control Board > PRCB
• Multi Functional Device > MFD (the machine itself)
Difference between Amur/Donau series and Minerva/Zeus series
• NVRAM
Amur/Donau > replaceable
Minerva/Zeus > not replaceable, integrated into MFPB
• EEPROM ( Service EPROM )

3. Error Code Explanation
C 4801
Cause
1.) MFP detects simultaneous replacement of multiple boards.
2.) MFP detects unknown PRCB and unknown SSDB.
3.) MFP detects unknown PRCB no engine data at SSDB.
Solution
Reinstall the old PRCB and the old SSDB
If that do not solve the problem, contact Konica Minolta Technical Support,
create an R&I with the following information:
• serial number of machine
• serial number of the installed PRC-Board
• serial number of the installed MFP-Board
• serial number of the installed SSD-Board
• step by step description of the actions which has been done by the technician
including background information why the related boards has been replaced or
swapped

Cause
1.) MFP detects replacement of PRCB and demanding an restore of
PRCB data

When replacing the PRCB with a new one, make sure that the ORIGINAL MFPB and
SSDB are installed on the machine

3.) How to swap MFPB and SSD as a set
• install giving MFPB and SSDB as a set

1. Prepare a USB pen with firmware

3. Plug USB pen with firmware to
service slot and switch the device on

sh 4. Select [Machine] and [Type] and

make correct settings (SM)
5. install firmware
It could be, that it‘s not possible to enter CE Mode or Admin Settings
> enter CE mode via trouble reset mode if necessary
If the machine is now working again, the fault is either the MFPB or the SSDB.
Install at first the original SSD Board to identify which of the two boards is defective and
perform the following procedure
!!Attention you can overwrite the original counter data if you not
follow the recommend procedure!!

Therefore, to prevent to overwrite the counters at SSD Board:
• check the original SSD Board

Now you can decide if the MFPB or the SSDB is the faulty one
• If the machine is not working, the SSD Board is defective. Please follow the known
order procedure at CSES.
• If the machine is working, the MFP Board is defective.
In very rar cases it can be that only a data integrity problem of the data
stored in the MFPB-NVRAM is the reason behind, so we recommended a cross
check of the MFPB

If the machine is working, bad data were stored at the NVRAM.
This was solved by reset.
If the machine is not working the MFPB Board is defect
To save time at customer side it is also possible to leave the working borrowed board
into the machine and them check the defective board at the workshop.

• When installing the borrowed MFPB back to the giving machine after an repair
procedure, take care you can overwrite the original counter data!!

Remark: Never use the MFP Board Reset Tool in the first step in a
trouble shooting process.
Use the reset tool only if you are sure that the SSD Board is not
defective or to reset an MFP Board after repair process for future use
as spare part.
The counter values are stored at the MFPB and saved at the SSDB.
You will lose the counter data, if you reset the MFPB and SSDB is the
faulty board.

1.) If the counter values at the MFPB are higher than the
SSDB, the SSDB values will be overwritten

• Before installing a PRCB for testing check at the original PRCB the ICP‘s with a
voltmeter
To prevent to damage a second PRCB check the ICP‘s to recognise if a harness is
broken and a short-circuit is the possible root cause
