Performance Task for Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction:
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST!
Steps to a Successful Research Report
1. Study the given topic. It should be a subject he can understand.
2. Make a plan. Create a calendar together to map out the process.
3. Check with the teacher. She should double-check the topic with her
teacher.
4. Conduct research and take notes. He can use a range of resources —
from books, periodicals, and the Internet — to do this. Help him practice
taking notes without copying word-for-word to reduce the risk of plagiarism.
5. Outline the project. This will help her organize her notes and thoughts.
6. Write the report. Use the outline as a road map.
7. Edit and reread the report. Checking and correcting mistakes are the
hallmarks of a good student.
Volcanic Hazard:
Group 1: LAVA FLOW
1. What is Lava Flow?
2. How does a volcano generates its magma?
3. What are Lava Effusion and Explosive Eruptions?
4.What are the different lava flows?
5. How to mitigate the effects of lava flow?
Group 2: VOLCANIC GASES
1. What is Volcanic Gases?
2. Describe the formation and escape to the surface of volcanic gases.
3. How does Volcanic Gas Components and their Effects dangerous to people?
4. How to identify Volcanic gas Danger spots and areas prone to gas accumulation?
5. What are the mitigating measures for Volcanic Gases effects to people?
Group 3: Pyroclastic Flows
1.What is Pyroclastic Flows?
2. How do Pyroclastic Flows Occur?
3. What are the different types of Pyroclastic Flows?
4. What are the effects of Pyroclastic flows?
5. How to mitigate the effects of pyroclastic flows?
Group 4: Tephra Falls and Ballistic Projectiles
1. What is a Tephra Fall? What are a Ballistic Projectiles?
2. In what conditions do the finest tephra fall fragments not fall back the ground right away?
What are the consequences of this?
3. How are tephra fragments “winnowed”? What factors affect the extent and distribution of
the different types of tephra and projectiles?
4.What was the biggest cause of death during the Pinatubo ashfalls? What contributed to these
incidents?
5. List three things that you need to do to protect your family’s health and lives from tephra
falls and ballistic projectiles.
Group 5: Lahar Flows
1.What are Lahars?
2. How are Lahars Generate?
3. How is it relevant to distinguish lahar deposits from non lahar deposits? How important is it
to differentiate types of lahars?
4.In what ways do the effects of lahar differ from those of flooding by river water?
5. How can science and technology contribute to the understanding of lahar and to the
mitigation of its effects to communities?
Group 6: Volcanic Debris Avalanche
1. What is a Volcanic debris Avalanche?
2. Name the features that indicate the occurrence of debris avalance?
3. What are the conditions that you must look for to say that a volcano is ripe for an avalanche
once triggered.
4. Described a post- debris avalanche scenario where a housing area and a commercial center
just beside the coastline used to be before being hit by debris avalanche from a nearby
volcano?
5. What would be the best thing to do to ensure one’s safety from debris avalanche?
Guidelines in making the Research report :
1. Make a title page with picture of the said topic with your group members and section in it .
2. Make the research report using the guide questions given per group.
3. Include example and pictures in it for further understanding.
4. Site all the sources you have used at the last page of your research report.
5. Font Style: Arial / Font size 14 for headings /12 for the body
6 Use proper margins Upper margin (1inch), lower margin (1inch), left margin (1inch) and right
margin (1inch).
7. If you have any questions please contact me thru direct message.
