Raft Slab Design and Calculations

This document provides design calculations for the reinforcement of a concrete slab according to Eurocode standards. Key details include: - The slab is 1000mm wide, 600mm thick with 75mm and 35mm cover at the bottom and top. - Minimum bending reinforcement is calculated to be 742.8mm2 and 800.3mm2 for the bottom and top respectively. - Crack width and stresses are calculated to check code requirements and are found to be acceptable. - Reinforcement provided is 5 bars of 16mm diameter bars at 200mm spacing, giving 1005mm2 area which exceeds the minimum requirements.

Instructions on how to use the calculation sheet

General:
This calculation sheet is ment for reinforced concrete flat slabs that are reinforced in main and
transversal direction in both bottom and top. Calculations and checks are made according to
EN1992-1-1:2004 Design of concrete structures. Part 1-1: General rules and rules for buildings.

Following calculations and checks are performed for Main & Transversal direction for both Bottom
and Top layer reiforcements ([Link] ; [Link] ; [Link] ; [Link])

ULS
- Calculation and check bending moment resistance
- Calculation and check for flexural shearing resistance
- Calculation and check for punching shear resistance (Note: Not referred to the Output sheet)
- Check for minimum area of reinforcement
- Check for maximum spacing of reinforcement

SLS
- Calculation for Un-cracked and Cracked cross section properties: xu, Iu, Mcr, xc, Ic
- Calculation and check for stress in concrete
- Calculation and check for stress in tensile reinforcement
- Check for minimum area of reinforcement
- Calculation and check for crack width

Instructions:
- Fill in the necessary input to the yellow cells
- Make sure that there are no "Not OK" and/or "NOTE!" messages - otherwise the design is not
valid and/or on the unsafer side.
- Calculations_M is the main input sheet. Slab geometry and reinforcement is given here.
- Required input for the Shear calculations are referred from Calculations_M sheet to the
Calculations_S sheet.
- Most important inputs and results are referred to the Output sheet that you can print
- Separate calculation for creep according to EC2 Annex B can be found from the Data sheet
