Defining job interview, a resume and cover letter and the types of job interview and
preparations for the interview

The Job Interview

A process in which a in which a potential employee is evaluated by an employer for

prospective employment in their company, organization or firm.An opportunity to
showcase your capacity and suitability to the employer of what s/he will get if you will be
hired.

Resume

The purpose of a resume is getting an interview. Resume's generally falls into two
categories:

• Chronological - lists work history job by job, starting with the most recent
position.
•Functional - focuses on the candidate’s skills rather than on past employment.

The Cover Letter

A persuasive cover letter is also called the application letter. It has three purposes:

a.) introducing your resume

b.) highlighting your strengths and suitability for the job

c.) gaining an interview

When writing a cover letter, you should:

 introduce yourself
 mention the job (or kind of job) you're applying for (or looking for)
 show that your skills and experience match the skills and experience needed to
do the job
 encourage the reader to read your resume
 Finish with a call to action (for example, asking for an interview or a meeting).

There are five basic types of job interview:

• The Screening Interview -the first step in the application process. A representative
from human resources would notify if you have met the minimum qualifications before
proceeding to the next step.

• The Selection Interview - while you may have the skills to perform the tasks that are
required by the job in question, the employer needs to know if you have the personality
necessary to "fit in".

• The group interview - In this interview, several job candidates are interviewed at
once.

• The Panel Interview - The candidate is interviewed by several people at once. It can
be quite intimidating as questions are fired at you.

• The Stress Interview -This is a technique sometimes used to weed out those who
cannot handle adversity.

Preparations for the interview

Before you begin to think about how you will get to dress for the interview, or answer
questions, you shoukd gather as much information about the employer as you can.

• Dressing for an Interview. Appearance is very important and wether we like it or not, it
is the first thing pwople notice about us.

• Establishing Rapport. Since the interviewr's job is to make sure that not only your skill,
and your personality as well, is a good match, you must establish rapport with the
person or persons interviewing you.

• Body Language. They say that body language gives more away about us than speech.
Eye contact is very important but make sure it looks natural.

• Answering Questions. Speak slowly and clearly. Pause before you answer a question.

• Asking Questions. Usually towars the end of the interview, the person conducting it will
ask you if you have any questions.

D. Learning Activity Sequence

Activity 2:

The teacher will present his cards with different possible questions in an interview. He
will ask the student to pick a card and the student will read and answer what was written
in the card. For 8-10 minutes.
