EDUC 200 - SIGNATURE ASSSIGNMENT
Task 1. Big Picture Questions
Question 1 – Name 4 countries that have a great educational system. Based on what you learned in this course, what are 3
similarities that these countries have in common? In other words, what are some factors that have helped these countries to
excel in the area of education?
I believe the four countries that have a great educational system is Poland, Finland, Korea, and China. The first similarity that
these countries have is that education is their main priority. Secondly, the parents push to have there children do well in school.
Lastly, the teachers are held to higher standards in their classroom, even when they are going to college to become a teacher.
Question 2 – Based on what you learned in this course, do you think the top performing countries are influencing other
countries? In other words, describe how the countries which are listed highest in terms of PISA scores are having an affect on
other countries?
I believe that the countries that really care about their education system are influenced by the top performers. The top
performing countries influence others when they see the top scores. I also think that seeing the way how other educational
systems teach helps. For example, countries teach their students how to do mental math allowing them to think more on their
own. Also, some of these countries teach their students more than others. For example, many countries are required to be
fluent in two languages (mainly English) while like the U.S., we only have to take two years of a different language.
Question 3 – Do you think that countries who pay little or no attention to educating its citizens can/will have a negative
impact on the world in the future? Support your answer.
Paying little to no attention to education citizens can and will have a negative impact on the world. Take Manisha and Mercy for
example, in both of their countries they would rather have boys get an education before girls do making the girls work instead
not having much book knowledge. Also, if the family doesn’t have enough money they don’t send their children to school. By
doing this, less people become educated not being able to pass down their knowledge to other generations. With this, the world
slowly stops to develop in the ways it should.
Question 4 - How does education in other countries compare to the system of education in the U.S. from your observations?
2
After reading the course book, it makes the U.S. educational system look pretty lazy for the most part. I believe that our teachers
should have a higher standard because some teachers become teachers just to get a paycheck. Also, in America, many of us can
say that education isn’t necessarily the main priority. We try to make it seem like it is but deep down not everyone cares. We
have a lack of motivation and people not having rigor.
Question 5 - Name some populations that are denied a good education? For example, we all know based on experiences in
this class that women and girls are denied a good education in parts of world (sadly). What are other groups of people that
are denied a good education?
Some other populations that are denied good education is the poor and sometimes depending where you are at, some races are
denied good education. Any lower class always have a harder time getting a good education because they have to work harder
than the higher classes.
Question 6 - Thing about the things we discussed in this course – name some things you could now do differently in your
future classes because of the information learned in this course? In other words, we want you to be self-reflective (thinking
about your thinking) – tell us some things you could in your future class to make it better based on items we learned about
with regard to learning about educational systems around the world? It could things like helping diverse learners, or perhaps
being more aware about students who may live in more rural areas of your district and don’t have access to technology (these
are just some ideas I had).
In my future classroom, I want to treat everyone the exact same. When I say this I will push the students to strive for greatness
no matter where they come from. I will make sure that my students actually work hard for their grades instead of me just giving
it to them. I as a teacher will strive for greatness as well. I will hold myself to high standards every day that I teach. I do want to
be aware of where my students come from making sure they have the resources they need.
(questions 7a through 7e) Let’s say that you are the ruler of your own country - think about some of the factors/conditions
that go into having a great educational system. And please have a little fun with these questions, too.
Question 7a - What would be the name of your very own country? What would be the name of the capital of your country?
Make something up! Have fun, be silly.
I would probably name my country Golden Doodle because I love doodles. The capital of my country would be Reece because
that’s my golden doodles name.

Question 7b – What would the population be? Big or small? Come up with a number. Why would be the size that you choose?
Would you want over 1 billion people in your country? Would you want under 1 million? Tell us why.
The population of my country would be about 200 Million because it’s big but not enormous comparted to other countries. That
way there is also room for some sort of growth like people or places.
Question 7c - Do they have access to technology (very briefly tell us about technology in your country)?
My country would be developed with the access to technology that is needed. The technology would be like what we have in
America. Except my country would know how to use their phones and tablets wisely instead of being on them all the time. There
would also be no kind of cyber bullying.
Question 7d – Would your country be mostly rural? Urban? Suburban? A combination? Why?
My country would be a combination of it all because there would be diversity. This is because people would understand what it’s
like to live in all those parts. Also, there would be lots of mountains and trees close by so you can go camping and do other
outdoors stuff.
Question 7e- Come up with at least 4 more facts/factors that would have impact they have on your country’s educational
system. In other words, think about conditions/factors that have led to the creation of great educational systems around the
world. Now, what condition/factors would like to see in your very own country?
Everyone would be motivated to do well in school, along with teachers loving to teach. There would be extra curriculars at
school but that would be the last focus compared to their education. Parents would be encouraging and helpful with their child’s
education like being aware of how they are doing in school. Lastly, everyone would be rigor.
OPTIONAL – If you would like to draw an outline of country in Word (using tools found in Word), include some clipart and/or
freehand then insert that picture of your country and place it here, please do so. This is optional of course, but I love seeing
how creative students can get! Only do this if you have some free time.
(if you choose to, draw, insert and/or paste in an outline of your newly formed country with your silly country name and capital
and please place it right here. Once again, this is part is optional but it can be fun. You can do whatever you like right here.
Please delete these words in red)
