CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE PROPOSAL

San Nicolas National High School have a canteen wherein they offer a variety of foods
and snacks like soup, bread rolls, lumpia, shanghai, burger, biscuits, yogurt drink, shomai and
other Filipino snacks. However, these snacks haven’t changed for almost a year now and as the
students of the said school, we also want to experience consuming other variety of foods during
recess time for convenience and comfort. On the latter part, the students find it difficult to look
for alternative snacks because the school canteen is offering the same kind and quantity of foods
every day. So we decided to partake in making a solution for this problem.

Since we are ABM students, selling products is the field that we are specialized for, and
so we would want to sell the product that we have planned, which will surely catch the eyes of
the students. This will not only increase the appetite of the students but it will also bring an
alternative choice for the students to choose to during break time. This shall heighten their
interest to eat something different during break time aside from the food that they are selling in
the school canteen, thus upgrading their school performance academically, physically, and
mentally.

According to Burrows and Rodriguez (2017), poor nutritional quality snacking at school
and at home was associated with poor secondary school academic achievement and the intention
to enroll in higher education. And so we believe that by proposing to sell this product to students,
their academic performance shall also increase. We upgraded the normal Ukoy and innovated it,
giving it the name “Mini Ukoy”. Ukoy is the Filipino version of shrimp fritters but the twist here
is that it is formed like a meat ball and has a quail egg inside. We decided to include sauce to
make it more tasty and savory. This is not only a delicious snack but also a nutritious one, giving
the students more protein due to the shrimp and quail egg, plus excitement and fun.

This shall lessen the problem of the students in not having another option of snacks
during break time, the profit that we shall get by selling this product would be spent on
educational purposes such us our projects and activities.
SIGNIFICANCE AND OBJECTIVES

The following are the significance and objectives of the proposed project:

 To Increase the production of products resulting for higher income


 To gain more experience as an ABM student
 To implement new product to the market
 To solve the problem of the students of not having any other options during break time
 To give the students the quality snacking food they deserve

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following are the definition of some terms that are going to be used throughout the project
proposal.

Appetite. It is the natural desire to satisfy a bodily need, especially for food.

Product. It is an article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale.

Ukoy. It is a Filipino crispy deep-fried fritters made with glutinous rice batter, unshelled small
shrimp, and various vegetables, including calabaza, sweet potato, cassava, mung bean sprouts,
scallions and julienned carrots, onions, and green papaya.

The respondents that are involved in this implementation are the students in the said
school which is the San Nicolas National High School. The number of respondents/customers
that would buy the product shall base on the number of the quantity that would be sold.

C. MARKETING STRATEGY

A game plan is necessary for this project in order to reach possible customers or

consumers and to gain high profit. Marketing strategies can be able to sustain the business for a

long run, it includes here the target market, target place, brand positioning, packaging,

advertising, discounts, referral and retention strategies.


The business owners came up with a food product that intended to easily attract their

target market which is the students in San Nicolas National High School. The owners of this

business choose this group as their target market because it is where they can gain more profit

from their product. Nowadays, millennials are really attracted to foods which can satisfy them as

long as the product is mouthwatering and also it is affordable.

If you already know your target market, it is needed to carefully look for your

surroundings in order for you to know where your target place is and freely sell your products.

From analyzing where you can put up or stand up the business, which is the starting line on

aiming the top of your business. The owners of this business thought of a place where there are a

lot of people who can easily notice it. The school is the perfect place to market the food products

because there are a lot of students to be aware about this kind of business.

In Brand positioning, for students who like new kind of snack in school because of tiring

look of the same snack every day, the mini ukoy is new snack that has different size and different

ingredients that could give satisfaction to them because of the new feeling. Unlike ordinary

shrimp fritter, mini ukoy is easily to eat because of its size and the unique about it is the quail

egg fill inside it that could make customers to try it.

The packaging isn’t just ordinary brown paper bag but it paste there the brand name of

the business which is “Ukoy na Ukoy” so that it would be classier and not be boring in the eyes

of consumers. It reminds consumers about the brand and the products offered. Packaging is one

of the key tools in defining and sharing brand identity. The consistent impression we create for

the business and product is what makes consumers recognize and remember the product.
The business owners thought of an offer which is the customers will have a discount if

they purchase a larger amount of the product. This kind of marketing strategy can help the

business to sell the products easily and to have a wider group of customers.

Another strategy that could expand and let the community know the product is showing

off the business through different social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and etc. It

is very effective and easier to do because nowadays, social media is a new addiction of the

society. It can widen possible consumers through this kind of strategy that could easily for them

to avail the product. The consumers will also be aware about the business. So, this online

marketing strategy has a great help to the business as well as to the owners.

The referral strategy could revolutionize the business owner’s success because for every

one customer referred to another customer, the business will eventually grow because of the

gained buyers. On the world of business, you need to market your product and let your customers

purchase it and tell them to refer it to their friends, families or they can also recommend it to

someone who need to buy the product that you are selling. Once you already have the place

where there are a lot of customers that is willing to buy your product, go for it and widen your

target market while the person who referred it, give her some reward or discount. There are also

individual tat wants to resell your product, give them chance to market it because that can help

you to be more progressive and make a higher profit. In referring your business, you can achieve

the goal that you want and make your business a successful one.

The last strategy that can give a great help to the business owners is retention strategy.

This strategy can help to retain loyal customers by just gaining their trust. You can let out your

skills in sales talking because that might encourage your customers to purchase your products.
Show them respect and satisfy them with your good customer service and you must be sociable

or maintain the relationship with your consumers.
