8. A person has purchased an existing 10 yrs old G+1 R.C.C. Frame structure as shown in 28
Fig. the owner now wants to convert 1st floor into saloon. The existing walls are 230 thk.
brick masonary in cement mortar. The floor and roof slabs are 120 mm thick R.C.C. The
clear room height for ground floor as well as first floor is 3.50 M. The plinth level being
450 mm above G.L. The following additions and alterations are proposed to the existing
structure :-
a) Construction of a 1000 mm wide open R.C.C. stair from ground to first floor only.
b) Construction of cantilevered R.C.C. porch at ground floor level that will act as
balcony on first floor as the entrance to saloon.
Assume lintel beam over window on first floor, to be converted into entrance door for the
saloon.
Draw all necessary drawings showing plans & sections at 1:50 scale, along with necessary
description so as to fully explain the methodology of construction & necessary precautions
that need to be adopted during the construction of proposed addition. Also draw to suitable
scale details of foundation of proposed cantilevered porch & the proposed R.C.C.
staircase.
Note – All dimensions are in mm
– Existing window openings (W) are 900 mm x 1300 mm
(WI) is 1200 mm x 1300 mm
– Proposed door opening can be 900 mm x 2100 mm

This Godown has a plinth height of 0.6 mts and height 4.5 mts at eaves, above plinth level.
It is proposed to construct a 12.00mt × 2.5mt wide loft using suitable materials, at a height
of 2.40 mt from the internal finished floor level, along one of the long walls.
