CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Background
Many English teaching uses Information Communication Technology (ICT). ICT in
virtual classroom allows teaching to take place at any time, not requiring similar
facilities in conventional classrooms. One of the innovations for developing teaching
techniques using computer technology is the Learning Management System (LMS)
media or called the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and better known as online
classes. This learning media really attracts the attention of teachers because the facilities
provided by the online class meet the needs of teachers in delivering materials,
assignments, and quizzes. In addition, they can also develop teaching materials,
conduct assessments and feedback quickly thanks to the internet connection used in this
online class. Online classes that are widely used by teachers around the world,
including teachers of English as a foreign language in Indonesia, are Edmodo.

b. Materials and Methods
This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a test instrument that is tested
first in the tryout session to obtain a valid and reliable test instrument. The quantitative
data in the study is the value of the English proficiency text test results. The research
sample was selected by cluster random sampling technique to obtain experimental
groups. and a control group of six classes of fifth semester students at the Faculty to
read language information from April to November 2015. Economics of the University
of Serang Raya.
c. Results and Discussions
X1 data obtained from the results of the comprehension ability test English text written
by students who received attention on online media Edmodo. A total of 30 students
5
become the sample in this experimental class. although the average value of
understanding the English text on students in Edmodo online class (ie 32.32) more
higher than those in the conventional class (i.e. 28.68), the difference between the two
was declared insignificant because of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.418> 0.05. Then the test
results the null hypothesis H1 = µ1.0 µ µ2.0 but accepts Ho = µ1.0 ≤ µ2.0. That is, there
is no significant difference above ability to understand English text in students who
were taught using online classes on Edmodo with them who are taught using
conventional media.

CHAPTER III Journal Assessment
3.1 Strengthen of the Journal
1. In terms of completeness of the identity of the journal, this journal has a
complete identity such as ISSN number which indicates that the journal is
official, there is a complete address by the author of the journal, and so forth.
2. In the abstract can already include the entire contents of the journal.
3. In terms of grammar, the language used in this journal uses the standard
language and the delivery of the material is not long-winded so that it is quite
easy for the reader to understand.
4. In terms of writing, the location of spaces and font size are regular.
5. In terms of the scope of the material, this journal contains articles that
describe broadly the effect of ICT use on improving the ability to understand
English text in E-learning.
6. In journals there are also tables and diagrams so that it can make it easier for
readers to better understand and remember the material in the journal.
7. At the end of writing the journal material, the author of the journal lists
conclusions and suggestions.
8. The attached list contains a considerable number of references related to the
topics covered in the article, making it easier for readers to get more
information about the material in the journal.
3.2 Weakness of the Journal
1. There are foreign terms that are not understood by some readers and in
journals are also not included meaning so that the lay reader is rather difficult
in understanding the material in the journal.
7
CHAPTER IV CLOSING
4.1 Conclusion
The effect of using ICT in the form of online classes in Edmodo is not significant
compared to the use of conventional media. Thus, the use of ICT in the form of online
classes cannot be favored to replace conventional media in giving influence to
improving the ability to understand English text in students.
4.2 Recommendation
• Choose online learning media that are user friendly to reduce technical constraints
when used.
• Lecturers / teachers who use online media must always motivate their students to
become independent learners and want to collaborate during the learning process in
online classes.
• Because this online media is used for teaching EFL (English as Foreign Language)
especially in text reading skills, it should not be avoided to switch language between
English and Indonesian during teaching and discussion. This is expected to reduce
communication barriers so that teaching objectives are achieved properly.
• Further research should be done by adding variables related to the role of students
and lecturers as users of this online learning media.
