Chapter 4: The Globalization of Economic Relations GEC 03 Activity 3 Instruction

The document discusses three questions related to globalization and economic relations: 1) McDonald's adaptation to local cultures shows that their success does not fully support Levitt's view of standardized global marketing. 2) The author prefers Jollibee over McDonald's as a Filipino customer because Jollibee's food matches local tastes, though McDonald's food quality is also good. 3) For cost-benefit reasons, the author prefers Samsung smartphones over other brands due to Samsung's superior display, features, performance and durability justifying its higher price over time.

Chapter 4: The Globalization of Economic Relations

GEC 03 Activity 3

Instruction: Answer the following questions. Look for the module to answer the questions
below. (Note: If you have questions, just ask me in Group Chat (Don’t PM me ☺). After you
finish it, you can send it to Google Classroom so you can rest your mind and body. Have a nice
day. )

1. Does McDonald’s success outside the United States provide support for Levitt’s view
about the global marketplace?

In my opinion, I don’t think that McDonald's success globally really supports Levitt’s
view. Levitt mentioned that global companies would be selling products and services in the
same way or techniques everywhere on earth. However, McDonald's global marketing
strategy is based on the country’s conditions and culture. Globalization involves developing
marketing strategies as though the world is a single entity, marketing standardized
products in the same way everywhere but McDonalds firm changes it and adapting their
strategies depending on the culture of every country.

2. Describe your personal experience with McDonald’s and Jollibee as a customer.

McDonalds and Jollibee are the two most famous fast food chains here in the
Philippines and as a customer of them I can say that McDonalds is like an American style
with a little bit Filipino style unlike Jollibee that is originally a Filipino style. I don’t really
eat much in McDonalds but their food is really great and high quality as it is a global firm
and they specialize more in burgers and chicken sandwiches but they also added Filipino
Spaghetti and chicken with rice to attract Filipinos . However, Jollibee specializes in
Filipino Spaghetti and Chicken with rice but they also sell hamburgers with Filipino flavor.
If I were to choose between them, Jollibee is the one for me and maybe it is because I am
a Filipino and their foods are Filipino style although McDonalds can also do that, Jollibee
is more accurate. McDonald's excel in many aspects specially the quality of their foods
and the size of their burgers but it is always the local taste or familiar taste for me.

3. As to cost benefit analysis, which would you prefer as your gadget: Samsung, Vivo,
Lenovo or local manufactured phones as Cherry Mobile, Star Mobile or My Phone?

As to cost benefit analysis, I prefer Samsung over Vivo, Lenovo or even local
manufactured phones. Samsung stands up in many aspects in terms of screen display,
design & features, performance, storage, camera, battery life and etc. Samsung may be
a bit pricey than the other phones but its useful life value is longer than the other and
it works best. It is smarter to buy an expensive phone that will last longer rather than
buying cheaper phones that are easy to break that will cause you to just buy again. The
reason why Samsung is the phone that I prefer the best is because of the quality and
that it will last in the long run even if it costs higher than the other (quality over price).
