RIFT TD TUTORIAL

DEPOSITION RESULTS
Page 1

Deposition models generate various results which may include:

• Result Summary.
• Basin Deposition Results.
• Detailed Deposition Results.
• Raise Surfaces.
• Deposition Embankment Results.
• Supernatant Pond Results.
In this tutorial you will work through these result types.

A copy of the Rift TD Users Manual may be useful when working through this tutorial. It is in-
stalled during Rift TD installation, but can also be downloaded from our download page.

This tutorial comprises:

• This instruction set.
• The Rift TD data file used to generate the result file, Final Model.rft.
• The deposition result file, Final Model.res.

This tutorial provides the Rift TD result file, Final Model.res, as a starting
point:
• Click File > Open Result File.
• Select Final Model.res.
• Click Open.
The model comprises:
• Basin deposition results.
• Deposition embankment results generated by cyclone deposition.
• A supernatant pond generated during deposition.
Rift TD activates basin deposition results on opening a result file.

The Result Summary is shown in the top right corner of the DTM View during, and following, a
deposition model run.

The Results Summary provides a result overview for the current raise surface.
It is updated during a deposition model run as deposition proceeds, or when
you load a raise surface. You can show or hide the Result Summary:
• Click the close button to close the Result Summary.
• Click View > Result Summary to toggle the Result Summary status.
You can copy Result Summary data to the clipboard; right click on the Result
Summary and click Copy to Clipboard.

Following a deposition model run or on opening a

Result File, Rift TD displays Basin Deposition
Results on the Data Grid.

You can view Basin Deposition Results on the

Deposition Result View.

If necessary, click the Basin Deposition Results

Tool-button to activate them.

The Basin Deposition Results are for a complete

raise i.e. deposition from all active deposition
Vectors/Locations. The Result Detail Form gives
results for individual Deposition Vectors/
Locations.

Rift TD generates numerous deposition output

parameters during a deposition model run. You
can select which parameters to show on the Data
Grid.
• Click on the Data Grid to activate it and
either:
• Press Ctrl E; or
• Right Click on the Data Grid and select
Set Result Options.
• Select parameters on the Result Options
Dialog.
• Click Ok.
You can copy results from the Data Grid to the
clipboard:
• Click on the Data Grid to activate it and
Press Ctrl C; or
• Right click on the Data Grid, click Copy to Clipboard, and
select an copy option.
You can also mark and copy specific Rows:
• Right click on the Data Grid and click Mark to mark a row.
• Right click on the Data Grid and select
Copy to Clipboard > Marked.

The Deposition Result View illustrates the Deposition Results on a four quadrant view.

You can change the axes parameters:

• Right click on the Result View.
• Click View Options.
• Activate the Parameters Sheet.
• Use the Drop Down Boxes to set the axis
parameters.

You can:
• Use the Zoom and Pan functions to set the
view.
• Copy an image of the Result View to the
clipboard:
• Right click on the Result View.
• Click Copy to Clipboard.

You can view Deposition Results from each Deposition Vector/Location;

click View > Result Detail.

The Result Detail Form provides a:

• Selector Panel with selector drop down boxes:
• Material: Use the Material No. Drop Down Box to view
results for a particular material.
• Raise No.: Use the Raise No. Drop Down Box to set the active
raise.
The Raise Summary results are also shown on the
Selector Panel.
• Result Grid: Displays the deposition results for the
active raise.
You can customise Result Grid output:
• Right click on the Result Grid.
• Click Options.
• Check the parameters to display.
• Click Ok.

Some rows may not have results this indicates that deposition did not take place. This may be
due to:
• The deposition elevation being below the surface.
• The deposition elevation being above its maximum elevation.
• The deposition elevation not being in a valid elevation range.
• The deposition point being in active.

You can save the active, or all results to either Text (txt) or Comma Delimited (csv) format.
• Click:
• File >Export Text; or
• File > Export Comma Delimited (csv).
• Select Active Raise Data or All Raise Data.
You can copy results to the clipboard:
• Click Edit > Copy.
• Select Active Raise Data or All Raise Data.
You can also right click on the Result Grid and click
Copy to Clipboard to copy the Active Raise Results to the
clipboard.

You can load any saved Raise Surface following a

deposition model run. Either:
• Select a raise from the Raise No. drop down
box on the Deposition Toolbar; or
• Right click on the Data Grid and select Load
Raise Surface to load the Raise Surface for
the active row.
If visible, Rift TD also updates the Result
Summary.

The Rise Numbers in the Rise No. Drop

Down box correspond to the Raise
Results on the Data Grid.

Rift TD generates Deposition Embankment Results

for Downstream or Centreline Cyclone if:
• The model is set to generate embankments
during deposition.
• A Deposition Embankment is defined.
Activate the Deposition Embankment Data Type to
view Embankment Results on the Data Grid. If more
than one Deposition Embankment is defined you can
navigate them using the Navigation Toolbar.

Results comprise:
• Fill Date.
• Crest Elevation.
• Plan Area.
• Cumulative Volume.
You can adjust the underflow material parameters
following a model run to assess the effect on
deposition:
• Activate Materials.
• On the Material Beach Definition Sheet:
• Change the Underflow Density and/or the
Underflow Percentage.
• Click Run Fill.
Blank Deposition Embankment Result End Dates
indicate that there is insufficient underflow material
to fill the embankment.

You can develop Supernatant Ponds during a deposition model run.

Depending on the options selected, you can generate:

• a volume elevation curve; and/or
• a pond boundary during a Deposition Model Run.
After a model run you can:
• Show or hide the Active Pond; and
• Set the Active Pond Elevation.
The Active Pond is the pond for the Raise Surface
shown on the DTM View.

You can also:

• View a Raise Pond Volume Elevation Curve; or
• Copy a Raise Pond Boundary to the Sting Data
Type.
The Raise Pond Operations refer to the Active Raise
(Row) on the Data Grid.

Right click on the Data Grid and select the Pond menu
to access these operations.

Rift TD may develop more than one Supernatant Pond.
