STUDENTS WHO STUDY ABROAD ACHIEVE GREATER
SUCCESS
Much of our learning takes place outside the classroom. We learn how
to to maintain budgets, develop business relationships etc. Imagine
extending those skills on a global level. We would cease to believe the
world only contains the people/things we can see but a wide variety of
opinions, customs and ethics. This is why every college level student
should study abroad during their undergraduate years. They will learn
more in that semester abroad than in any other academic year.

become international leaders, students who study abroad are likely to
be accepted into the graduate degree program of their choice. Imagine
walking into an interview and being able to discuss preparing a popular
dish in India or organizing the best route to take from Sydney, Australia

demonstrate a student’s fierce independence and determination. All
this makes someone who has studied abroad a more desirable

3. Differentiate Between Facts and Opinions with two examples
each.
A fact is a statement that can be proven true or false. An opinion is a
expression of a person’s feelings that cannot be proven. Opinions can
be based on facts or emotions and sometimes they are meant to
deliberately mislead others.
Examples of facts:
1. With fewer cars on the road, there would be less air pollution and
terrific noise, therefore the use of mass transportation should be
encouraged.
2. If birth control is being used in Nigeria, there will be less
population and an utterly smooth running of governmental
activities.
Examples of opinion:
1. I think birth control can enhance an effective government in
Nigeria.
2. Masss transportation is an ideal one for every country to
adopt.

Chinyere Otuu Egbuta.

THEME OF PAINS & REGRETS: Sometimes, people act of anger,
over excitement with knowing that everything before taking
effect must be considered and had deep thought about. The book
“JINX” recorded numerous pains and regret courses. Oji during
the time of war was in a better position to save, guard the woman
he wanted to marry “Adaeze”, but he never did. He regretted his
actions because, it took away his wife to be to another man. Oji
disrespected the king because he wanted to speak on his father’s
(Uchendu) behalf, after a long while, he regretted why he did
what he did. Further, Ihuoma was highly in love with Oji which
made her slept with him and got pregnant for him, she became
highly bitter of her actions and regretted her actions. This made
her left the village because she couldn’t stand the shame of facing
her elder sister and mom
THEME OF MARRIAGE/LOVE: The novel “JINX” explained how
beautiful marriage could be when with the right people, marriage
is being so beautifully blessed when you have kids. In life
everything has time, “Oji” in the novel learnt he was mature
enough to marry and he had a support from the reverend Akpan
that is was time for him to settle down. In the Novel “JINX” made
us understand that love and marriage looks beyond tribe,
language, culture etc. A practical example was Adaeze and
Ahmed, how Ahmed an Hausa Soldier fell in love with Adaeze and
got married to her. “Oji” didn’t relax, he still searched out for a
wife until he met Nneka and deemed to settle down with her. If
marriage was just about the ceremony, no one would ever think
of getting married. In life everyone needs to be completed
because that’s how God made it to be. Even “Uchendu”, “Oji’s”
father later got married at an old age, there is always a need for
companionship especially with right person.
THEME OF ADMIRATION: The novel “JINX” shows that being
admired is beautiful thing. Sometimes, people are accepted into a
place or respected well enough because of admiration. Oji in the
novel “JINX” admiration education and teaching a lot which made
him move into the profession and tools it quite serious. Oji’s
admiration towards ‘Adaeze’ made him seek her hand in
marriage. Although, it didn’t turn out well. Admiration can be
adverse or favorable Ihuoma admired Oji so much that it made
her fall in love easily with Oji not minding that Oji was her sister’s
husband.
