LAB REPORT
Procedure (Ability to understand and use the data given)
Part A (Variable Control Chart)
1. First of all a calliper and a container full of marbles.
2. We need to identify each of their diameter. (diameter of marbles).
3. Then, we need to record them into 5 sample sizes group with 20 subgroups of marbles.
4. From the collected data from each sample sizes we need to construct appropriate variable
control charts.
Part B (Attribute Control Chart)
1. From container given, 10 sample sized of nuts are divided separately for 20 subgroups.
2. Then we examined each sample using gauge go-no-go.
3. All the result are recorded on the given table.
4. From the data required, we construct appropriate control charts.
5. From the control chart, answer the given question.
Work Process (Ability to provide process flow)
Part A (Variable Control Chart)
1. Collect and Calculate Subgroup Data
Collect (at least) 20 subgroups of data from the process.
2. Calculate the Centerlines and Control Limits
The formulas for calculating the centerlines and control limits
Set the scales for the charts.
Add the centerlines and control limits.
3. Plot the Data
Plot on both the X-bar and the R Charts.
4. Interpret the Control Chart
If no points are outside the limits and there are no unusual patterns, the process is stable.
If more than two points are outside of the limits, it is not stable.
If one point is outside the limits, drop it, recalculate the centerline and limits, and replot the
data. In this case, the process is stable if all points are within the control limits.
5. Take Action – Use the calculated limits if the process is stable.
Improve the process if it is not stable.
You cannot use a control chart on an unstable process.
Part B (Attribute Control Chart)
i. Examine the sample given. Using gauge go-no-go.
ii. Record the data.
iii. Calculate all the required data (center line, upper class limit, lower class limit)
iv. Plot attribute control chart and interpret the chart.
v. Complete the result, discussion, and conclusion.

Outcome (Results)
i. Determine the correct types of chart used for Part A.
X bar R chart because the sample subgroup is less than 10.
ii. Determine the correct types of chart used for Part B.
The suitable chart for part B is np-Chart, the reason we chose this chart because the given
subgroup size are constant and the single qualities inspection on on the sample which in go nogo
inspection.
iii. Calculation of central line and control limits for Part A.
iv. Calculation of central line and control limits for Part B.
v. Plotted the control chart Part A.

Outcome (Discussion)
i. Opininion based on Plotted control chart Part A.
Based on the plotted control chart for Part A is that we got 2 charts which is the X-bar chart and
R-bar chart. From, X- bar chart we can see that it determines the process capability and its quality
improvement. Whereas, from the R-bar chart we can see that it analyses the data in the
development stage of product or prior state of statistical control.
ii. Opinion based on plotted control chart Part B
Based on my analysis, the np chart is in control where there are no out of control point touching the UCL and
LCL. But there are huge jump between sample 10 and sample 11. Its show satisfactory on the examined part.
iii. Examples application of each control charts for attributes.
P chart-Fraction nonconforming within one subgroup
Example- measure the quality produced by a work center, by a department, by a shift, or
by an entire plant.
Np chart-Number nonconforming within one subgroup
Example- he number of incomplete accident reports in a constant daily sample of five
C chart- Nonconformances within one subgroup
Example can be used to monitor the number of injuries in a plant.
U chart-Nonconformances per unit within one subgroup
Example-can be used to monitor the number of injuries of multiple type plant .
Outcome (Conclusion)
i. Write conclusion for Part A.
Control charts variables are one of the best guide for the engineers to detect the changes in the
process. Before constructing those charts firstly some assumptions must be tested. The
assumptions in question are uncorrelated measurements, normality, homogeneity of variances and
homogeneity of means. To avoid the misunderstandings and wrong interpretations of these charts,
one should test those assumptions and if the assumptions are satisfied, then the charts must be
constructed.
ii. Write conclusion for Part B.
Control chart is created to make us understand the operating porcess that happen during the
manufacturing. From the control chart, we can decide whether we need to countinue the part
manufacturing or stop the production. It also can help us to detect which problem need to
take measure first.
