Activity
Display website on projector to explain how a food chain works. Guide students as they build a food chain using the site. Once students have an understanding of the concept, students could create a food chain of their own using the example on the second website.

Activity
Reread story with students. Have students identify the conflict presented in the story and how the chicks worked cooperatively to solve the problem. Provide scenarios for students to roleplay problem/solution using cooperation with one another.

Explore Activity- Science TE pg. E5. Read and discuss pages E 6-9. Have children retell the lesson by filling in the blanks on the web. (TEpg. E9) Teach students the song on the website using the projector. A short matter quiz follows the song. Complete WB pages 237 & 238.

Activity
Introduce lesson by asking students to identify moles wants in the story to what the little bird needed. Discuss the difference between a need and a want. Display pictures of common items. Ask students if they are a need or a want. See website for a lesson plan on teaching needs and wants. Have students select items out of magazines and categorize them as a need or want.

Have students locate Tennessee on their map and shade it in. Students can list 2 facts from the lesson on their maps.

Provide a large zip lock bag of items for students to use in a center activity. Have students sort the items according to observable properties. Possibilities: Smooth/Rough Hard/Soft Light/Heavy Size

Have students place 20 small items in a shirt box. Work with a partner to play "I Spy", giving clues about their object such as, I spy something soft, round, and red." Take turns with partner spying items in the shirt box.

Amazing Inventions- Center Activity- Reading TE 140 k. Have students draw a picture of their invention. HOT: Have students create an invention and describe its use.

Activity
Give each student a pipe cleaner. Ask students how they can change the shape of the pipe cleaner. Let students explore the different ways to change the shape. Point out that although the shape changed, it is still a pipe cleaner. Demonstrate the same (teacher) by cutting an apple. Read pgs. E 34-37. Have students brainstorm a list of things they eat as mixtures. Have them illustrate the items in their mixtures separately and together as a mixture.

Activity
Share Tennessee Facts with students, paying particular attention to Tennessee Attractions. Have students make a class collage of different modes of transportation.
