Classifications of rasis based on;

1. Even/odd Signs & Male/Female signs

I. Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagitarious and Aquarious are called odd rasis
or vishama rasis or oja rasis.

 They are also known as male rasis.

II. Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpion, Capricorn and Pisces are called even rasis
or sama rasis or yugma rasis.

 They are also known as female rasis.

Application: This division is used in some dasas and in the determination of the
sex of children.

2. Movable/Fixed/Dual Signs

I. The Movable signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

o They represent Activity, Adaptability, Movement, Change, Speed,

Reform, Dissatisfaction, Independence, Moving on, Flexibility (leading

to rapid changes).

II. The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

o They represent headstrong temperament, rigidity, steadiness, calm,

resolute and slow but steady nature, determination, accumulation,

remain in one place/ job for many years, fixed opinions on religion

and spirituality, etc.


III. The Dual signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces.

o They represent a mix of both Movable and Fixed signs, and hence,

they have a ‘dual’ nature.

o They are keen on learning, scholarly, philosophical, interested in

reading/ writing, good at communicating/ preaching/ teaching.

3. Diurnal/Nocturnal/Twilight Signs:

(1) Ar, Ta, Ge, Cn, Sg and Cp are night time rasis – they are strong during the

night time. They are nishaa rasis.

(2) Le, Vi, Li, Sc, Aq and Pi are daytime rasis – they are strong during the

daytime. They are divaa rasis.

There are two rashis owned by a planet, one is a day sign and one is a night

sign. Moon governs all the nishaa rasis and Sun governs all the divaa rasis.

4. Shirshodaya/Pristhodaya/Ubhyodaya rasis

 Some rasis rise with their head. They are called Seershodaya rasis. Some

rasis rise with their feet. They are called “Prishthodaya rasis”.

 Ge, Le, Vi, Li, Sc, Aq are Seershodaya rasis.

 Ar, Ta, Cn, Sg, Cp are Prishthodaya rasis.

 Pi rises with both its head and feet i.e., Ubhyodaya rasis.

 Planets in Seershodaya rasis give their results in the first half of their dasas

and planets in Prishthodaya rasis give their results in the second half of

their dasas.
5. Brahmin/Kshatriya/vaisya/shudra signs

There are basically 4 varnas or classes – (1) Brahmanas, (2) Kshatriyas, (3) Vaisyas

and (4) Sudras. These are classified basis the Karma or work.

 Brahmanas (scholars) pursue knowledge and work as priests or ministers.

o represented by watery signs – Cn, Sc, Pi.

 Kshatriyas (warriors) are warriors and they become kings, army chiefs and

soldiers

o represented by fiery signs – Ar, Le, Sg.

 Vaisyas (traders) are the traders and suppliers of various services

o represented by earthy signs – Ta, Vi, Cp.

 Sudras (workers) execute various physical tasks

o represented by airy signs – Ge, Li, Aq.

Classification of Bhawas

Trikonas: The trikonas (1, 5, and 9) and their lords, are the most auspicious

houses in the chart. The trikonas are dharmasthanas. They bring spirituality,

knowledge, goodness, generosity, wealth and fame, especially if they are well

endowed.

Tri-shadya Bhavas: Houses 3, 6 and 11; they are malefic houses.

Trikasthanas: Houses 6, 8 and 12 are considered to be the three evil houses of

suffering or dusthanas.
o These houses and their lords bring difficulties, suffering, loss,

anxieties, worries, obstacles, disease, incarceration, impediments, enemies,

lawsuits, accidents, injuries, surgeries, and death like experiences into our lives.

o They are said to be evil and malefic houses.

o The third house is a mild dusthana but houses 6, 8 and 12 are

extremely malefic.

Kendras, Panphara and Apoklim (Three Stages of Life):

o Kendra Bhavas (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th houses): Childhood and Youth

o Panaphara Bhavas (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th houses): Middle and

mature age

o Apoklima Bhavas (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th houses): Old age and dying

days

The order of Kendra → Panaphara → Apoklima has striking similarity

with Sun’s apparent movement through Moveable → Fixed → Dual signs

of tropical zodiac.

Rules of the placement of planets in kendra, panaphara and apoklim sthaan in
