THE EFFECTS OF THE EFFECTS OF AXIETY AND DEPRESSION IN ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN HCCD
This research aims to discover and analyze the effects of anxiety and depression on students'
academic performance.
A student's mental health condition and stability have a significant effect on a student's academic
performance. Nowadays, many teenagers often suffer from anxiety and depression without
treatment. Depression is a common disorder that impacts an individual's ability to perform life
activities, including those required by the workplace. Academic performance can be viewed as a
direct parallel to workforce performance, with students belonging to a unique set of individuals
whose ability to perform can be measured on criteria applied by an observer and by self-report.
While the prevalence of depression for this group is high and preparation for entry into the
workplace is critical for these individuals, this relationship has not been adequately investigated.
According to mental health, one of the common comorbidities is depression and anxiety. And it
has been estimated that 60% of those with anxiety will also have symptoms of depression.
According to the demonstration of Yerkes and John Dillingham Dodson, moderate levels of
anxiety improve the performance of humans and animals, while too much anxiety impairs
performance. This demonstration was done to both animals and humans. According to Harvard
medical school, depression can impair your attention and memory and also affect one's
information processing and decision-making skills. So, any student experiencing anxiety,
depression, or both will affect their academic performance. That is why our research aims to
study the effects of anxiety and depression on a student's performance and the factors
surrounding it.
