MINI PROJECT SYNOPSYS

OMR Scanner Using Open CV AND Python
Proposed Project Summary:
Optical Mark Reader (OMR), also called ―mark sensing, is a method of scanning
technology in which data is input via marks made in predefined positions on a form and
entering data into a computer system . OMR technology is used everywhere even in
schools, colleges and classes. Usually, a stencil is given to the examiner to evaluate the
correct answers to the questions while the examining phase. But this manual process can
lead to lot of errors such as counting mistake. To make sure that this is avoided On OMR
system is used in which OMR answer sheet is to be scanned and this scanned image of
answer sheet is taken in by the software system. Exams now-adays use OMR answer
sheet checking system as this makes the conduction of exams easy, powerful and cheap.
Answer sheet layout is made using sheet design depending on our requirements. Optical
Mark Recognition is used for recognizing certain “marks” on an image and using those
marks as a point of reference to extract other regions of interest (ROI) on the page. In this
project we will be using OpenCV and python to scan a page and recognize where the
markers are. Then using the template, the algorithm can determine where the ROI’s are in
regard to the markers.
Problem Statement: Whenever any academic or competitive exam conducted on OMR
sheets then we need an OMR Scanner to scan the OMR answer sheet or form to detect
the absence or presence of a mark on the specially designed form. Therefore, we propose
this software system to check the OMR Sheet having a particular format.
Expected Project Outcomes:
The main objective of this project is to develop Image processing based Optical Mark
Recognition sheet scanning system. In today's world a whole lot many entrance exams
are held as competitive exams which comprise of MCQs. The students in such exams
have to fill the right boxes or circles for correct [Link] implemented Optical Mark
Recognition (OMR) methods that facilitated our ability of capturing human-marked
documents and automatically analyzing the results.
