CHAPTER 3: CURRICULUM INFLUENCES

LESSON 1- SCHOOL FACILITIES AND OTHER RESOURCES AS INFLUENCE IN
CURRICULUM

ACTIVATE

Can you identify these school facilities?

Do you know the importance of these facilities?

ANSWER:
Schools' facilities raise the standard of the learning environment, which improves the quality of
education. Planning for routine maintenance of school facilities ensures that they are safe,
secure, cost-effective, and conducive to learning. If the acoustics of the room are taken into
account when setting up the classroom, students will be better able to concentrate on their
studies, and teachers will experience fewer interruptions.
APPLY
Instructions: Have a matrix of the varied school facilities in your campus, its uses and
importance.

ANSWER:

Infrastructure and Facilities of ISAT University

Laboratory Facilities
It provides first-hand knowledge to pupils and greater learning possibilities. The goal of a
laboratory is to learn how to acquire knowledge, how to observe, and how to interpret what
occurs rather than to compete to achieve the "correct answer."
Physical Structures
The basis of structured education is physical structure, which helps to ensure that learning is
taking place in the classroom. The arrangement of each area in the classroom and the locations
of the resources and furniture are referred to as the physical structure.

Laboratory Instruments
Students may do experiments rather than just reading about them thanks to science lab
equipment. They can observe and execute thrilling experiments instead of taking dull notes.
Complicated ideas and concepts are frequently simpler to understand when learning is hands-
on. Students can consequently become more interested in their subject matter and have a
greater understanding for the sciences.
Hotel and Restaurant Technology Physical Facilities and Laboratories

This laboratories will equip students with competencies that are needed to execute operational
tasks and management functions in food production (culinary), accommodation, food and
beverage service, tourism planning and product development, events planning, travel and tour
operations.

ASSESS
How does school facilities impact in the following areas:

a. student achievement;

b. student attendance;

c. student behavior;

d. student completion rate; and

e. teacher turnover rate

ANSWER:

One of the most critical elements influencing academic success and student progress is a
loving and caring family. Students' academic performance is influenced by a number of factors:
students' learning skills, parental background, peer influence, teacher quality, and learning
infrastructure. Research has shown that students with involved parents achieve higher grades,
have better attendance, and have bigger long-term aspirations. In general, a school's facilities
have an impact on students' health, conduct, engagement, learning, and progress. The
amenities that students and teachers get at school also affect their physical and mental well-
being. Students who might be more reserved can gain from the opportunity to ask questions
and receive assistance in a more intimate setting. Programs offered after school may even offer.

LESSON 2- ALUMNI AS INFLUENCE IN CURRICULUM

APPLY
Reflect on the many help provided by the Alumni in your school. What are some specific
projects that they contributed in your school?

ANSWER:

You must give alumni opportunities to connect with one another, the school, and the current
student body if you want them to get involved. But through the ties with the alumni, the
community, and their groups, it also provides the school and its students with the advantages of
networking. A fundamental objective of alumni involvement should be to foster relationships like
these at a school. Give assistance. Offer free admission to school activities or let alumni utilize
the space for meetings or events. This might be a simple approach to spark enthusiasm, and
you want a team of adults involved in the school.

Such costs will be more than covered by developing an alumni program. Reunions are a terrific
way to keep former students interested, but consider other ways to include them so they feel
important, such asking them to help teach a sport, tend to the school gardens, or help with
plays. Active alumni should join educational activities and go on field trips with the students.
Consider placing recent high school graduates in the same situation as certain universities that
provide a "subscription" strategy that allows for lifelong involvement and learning. Engage
alumni with more intimate gatherings or activities geared at particular demographics, such as
reading clubs or gatherings for members of a close-knit but less noticeable former team or
group.

ASSESS
State the importance of alumni as an important stakeholder of the school. What are the areas in
which the alumni association are interested in? How can alumni networks help in improving the
curriculum?

ANSWER: For an institution to operate, its alumni network needs to be vibrant and helpful. If
communication breaks down after graduation, graduates will know less about a university. You
should instead continue to inform them so they may remain interested in and knowledgeable
about how the university is faring. The school and the alumni can both benefit greatly from
having strong ties to the alumni. In this post, we discuss the advantages of keeping an active
alumni network as well as how the market is evolving for HE professionals involved in alumni
relations.

LESSON 3- STUDENT SERVICES AS INFLUENCE IN CURRICULUM

Are you aware of the student services offered in school?

Have you availed some of these services? Please share your experiences. Would you like to be
holistically developed as a well-rounded person?

ANSWER:
Being a student is fantastic since it's not all about sitting through lectures or studying at a desk;
instead, students may keep active between courses by joining a cheap gym or joining a sports
team. You can use some universities' sizable playing fields, swimming pools, and indoor
stadiums for recreation or as a member of a sports team. For a convenient workout in between
classes, several also provide on-campus gyms. On-campus nurses can offer first aid care, basic
medical advice, and referrals for family planning-related issues. Student health center.
Additionally, students might be able to schedule a visit with a clinician who accepts insurance
plans in full or get discounted dental care.
Larger facilities may offer access to a full staff of physicians and nurses, and some institutions
may have a pharmacy on site. Counseling. Students who need discreet assistance about their
education, relationships, or home issues can get it from trained counselors. If you need help
adjusting to the changes that come with starting tertiary study, you can also plan a time to talk
(such as being away from home or keeping up with an independent study schedule). This
service is accessible without a prescription from a physician.
APPLY
Recall and write a one –paragraph experience that you have about student services provided to
you by your school. Be able to share it to the class through the Class GC
I selected Aglosong Elementary School in Concepcion, Iloilo, to be the site of my service
learning. Third grade was the group I chose to observe and engage with. I've worked with kids
as little as six weeks old and as old as thirteen, but I like dealing with people of all ages. I chose
this age range because the children are still like sponges, taking up all they are taught, but they
have already learned enough to start developing their own identities. Additionally, I've observed
that at this point, the kids start to stand out academically from one another or begin to lag
behind.
ASSESS
