Feminist Analysis of Cinderella's Message

This document provides a feminist critique of the Cinderella fairytale. It summarizes that Cinderella portrays women as always needing help and rescue, which can be degrading. The stepmother character embodies how women's needs for security and wealth can make them evil. Additionally, the story suggests that men have power over women and their status in society depended on marriage. The unstable household after Cinderella's father died demonstrates how women were not seen as able to head households. Overall, the critique argues the fairytale reflects the gender biases of the time where women had less recognition and independence in society.

Feminist Criticism On Cinderella

Cinderella, just like the other fairytale, features a damsel in distress longing for
someone to love her. Just like other fairytale, it ends in happily ever after scene with the
protagonist, cinderella, ending up as lucky maiden who married and prince and will one day
became a queen. In her journey, there of course was the antagonist, the stepmother, who
gave us the genetic motion that stepmother can be witches.

In a feminist perspective, the story of Cinderella gave the impression that women are
always in need. And because of this need, there are negative traits that rises. Just like the
stepmother in the story, her need for security and wealth made her evil. It is somewhat
degrading to women because it gives the impression that women are weak. Though in the
course of the story, Cinderella was still able to redeem herself by being brave enough to
face her stepmother and taking the risk of getting caught during the ball it also emphasize
that men rules a gave women as they can easily choose who to many and that the decision
of a nation or household depends upon them.

In the course of the story, a glimpse of now unstable a household can be if a women is
the head of a household was portrayed through the characters of the stepmother. The
wealth and stability of the household became sneaky when Cinderella’s father died. There
was also an impression given that there really is a need for a women to be married for her
status in the society to be preserved on to be dignified in a society. Since the story was
written in an end where women has not yet fully recognized in the society. It is a proof that
there has been a bias in gender during that age which has slowly changed as compared to
this age.
