ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First, I would like to thank God for providing me with strength and motivation to complete the School
Based Assessment (SBA).

Secondly, I would like to thank the principal sir Kenrick Lewis for allowing us. To host the interhouse at
our school to do our school-based assessment.

Thirdly I would like to thank all the other group members for their cooperation and for allowing the
competition to be a success.

In conclusion however, I would like to thank everyone who assisted me throughout the competition

Introduction
The School Based Assessment for physical education and sports instructs that students are to host a
competition with each student taking responsibility for one role as an official in athletics. The students were
required to manage every aspect of the athletics.

Track and field are one of the oldest and renown sports been popular in every country including region # 9.
The St. Ignatius Secondary school physical education students Grade 11 was constructed to host an annual
inter-house sports athletics as a project to complete our school-based Assessment (SBA) which was held on
the 12th, 13th and 14th of October,2022 with each student required to manage every responsibility of the role
the chose to do.

Throughout the competition, each student was required to fulfil the responsibility of their respective
role and report on what they had done. My S.B.A was based on the role of the bell official.

Minutes of Meeting

July 7, 2022
A meeting was held for all the fifth form physical education students of St. Ignatius secondary
school at the auditorium on July 4, 2022 at 9:40hrs where the planning of sport was discussed in
order to complete the Physical education SBA completed

All the physical education students were present including the parents and also the teacher.

Call to order

The meeting was called to order by the physical education teacher sir Ryan Farias.

New business

Planning of sport
The physical Education teacher and the students had discussed that their school will be hosting
athletics sport this year 2022.With this opportunity the Physical Education students all agreed to
do the sport in order to get the SBA completed. Students were also given the task of choosing a
role.

MY ROLE

ROLE OF BELL OFFICIAL

The bell is used to notify runners of each lap on the track. It sits at the bottom of the finish

Line is used in track and field events.

REASON FOR CHOOSING MY ROLE
I chose this role because I always wanted to get the experience of being a bell official. Being a bell official, it
was easy to handle, I didn’t have much to do but just ring the bell at the ending lap unit the last athlete pass.
I really wanted to feel the expression of ringing a bell for long.

Report on role

The SBA started the official should do their roles as I am a bell official; we were place together at the finishing
line and do what we were supposed to do it for our SBA on 13th and 14th october,2022. Some Bell official
were not present.

General Report
The SBA started the teacher explaining the full process. A meeting was held in the
auditorium on the 4th of July,2022. In the meeting with the physical education
teacher, the students and the parents had discussed that they had to choose a
suitable sport in order to complete the SBA. After all the ideas they had come up
with, we all agreed to do a athletics sports championship. Permission was asked
from the school principal for the athletic sport championship to be held on the 12th ,
13th and the 14th October, 2022.The first day of the 12th of October athletics
championship started the track steward, starters, Judges, Refreshment official's and
the bell officials were asked to assemble at the St. Ignatius Secondary School.
Athletes that were participating in the Marathon Race were also asked to assemble
at the school at 4am in the morning. The individual houses were caried to Takutu
bridge to prepare for the race and arrived at 7:12, all four (4) houses try all their
best and also, they give full support for that morning at 9:34, all swimmers and the
physical education students were taken to the swimming pool. The competition
went very well and fortunately none of the athletes were injured. The 2nd day of the
athletics sports which was on the 13th October,2022, which was the track and field.
All the students arrived at the ground at 9:00am, the first sport started on that day
was 300-meter race. Some attention had to be called to the ground because
children were crossing the boundary and had caused the game to be delayed for a
while. Some of the PE students were not present at the same time which had
caused some roles to be unoccupied, luckily the coordinators and the assistant
coordinators helped to fill in the roles. It was brought to my attention that there
were not enough shed to occupy all the houses at was recently added not too long
ago.

REFLECTION
OVERALL REFLECTION

Our track and field course turned out to the quite successful despite a few problems. As the bell
official I didn’t have much to do but just ring the bell. As soon as someone came forward to the last lap,
I started to ring the bell and stop until the last athlete reached the finishing line.

The track and field turned out to be quite aggressive and competitive as each team really wanted
to win and be on the top.

Honestly, I felt that the track and field could have been better organized and fair to all the
officials. It could have been organized by officials having a better understanding of their roles in the
sports.

WORKING WITH GROUP MEMBER

Honestly, I do not particularly like to work in groups, but I always give my full cooperation
whenever I have work with others. In our group, the bell officials, most of the members cooperated
while quite a few did not.

Aside from bell official, I also decided to help in some of the judge work. I did this because some of
the other judge officials were not there and had difficulty with the athletes and they needed someone to
help to judge the athletes in order.

However, considering the numbers of people who genuinely helped, the track and field was a
success It ran rather smoothly.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

It was really a great experience to work on this S.B.A. It took me a while to gather all the necessary
information and guidelines to write up this S.B.A. It also took me a while to get the appropriate picture
to include in the S.B.A.

This S.B.A. was somewhat fun because we, the members of bell officials, got the experience of
hosting a track and field event. I really enjoyed doing this S.B.A. Because we were allowed to express our
opinions which I liked a lot.

 A few recommendations would be better organizational skills at the management level and more
consistency among the group members even though they may not totally agree with each other.

Conclusion

At the end of the track and field competition, the officials gained an overall better insight of track and
field throughout the competition. The competition was a great success, I believe that every one of the
officials who was part of the competition, both management and participate enjoyed it. Track and field
are one of the best events.
