William Shakespeare(1564 - 1616)
Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest English dramatist of all time. His work
influenced generation of later artists.
We know little about Shakespeare’s early years. His father, John Shakespeare was a
merchant and a man of some importannce in his local community. His mother, Mary Arden
was a higher social class. Although there are no records, it seems that Shakespeare attended
the local grammar school at Stratfondupon Avon, where he was born. In 1582, Shakespeare
married Anna Hathaway, who was eight older than him. They had three childreen. In 159,
Shakespeare became a leading member of a newly-formed acting company, the Lord
Chamberlain’s Man. This company became the king’s Man when James I became a king.
Shakespeare stayed with themfor the rest of his career. In 1599, the company accupaid the
now famous globe theatre in London. Shakespeare lived and worked in London, while his
family remained in stratford. Shakespeare’s plays are still performed more often than those of
any other playwright. Film versions appear frequently.

Mobile phone
A mobile phone is a very small portable radio telephone. The mobile phone can be used to
communicate over long distances without wires. It works by communicating with a nearby
based station which connects it to the main phone network. The network is the company that
provides the phone service. In most areas, there will be more that one mobile network.
Customers chose networks base on how well the different networks work in their area, or by
price.
There are different kinds of phones. A flip phone flips open, and is best for calling. A
bar phone is shape like a candy bar, and the keys and screen are on one face. A slate phone is
a phone that has almost no buttons, and uses a touch screen. Most smart phones are slate. A
slider phone slides on rails. It can slide out number keys or a mini keyboard, but some do
both. Some digital mobile phones need a separate microchip, called a Subscriber Identity
Mobile or SIM, to work. The SIM has information like the phone number and payment
account and this is needed to make or receive calls.
A majority of new mobile phones from the 21st century are smart phones. These
phones can be used for e-mail, browsing the internet, playing music and games, and many
other functions that computers can perform. This is because mobile phones basically are small

This text is for question 24 to 26.
Due to the development of technology, students tend to use laptop in class more often
than pens and paper. However, there are many arguments whether school should allow the
students use laptop or not.
First of all, people do not write as much today as they used to several years ago. Some
students tend to feel more confident and comfortable typing on their devices rather than
handwriting. Keeping a record after a teacher in class requires a student to write fast, which
often decreases the readability of the notes taken. At the same time, typing on a laptop helps
write the important information down on a comprehension and accurate way.
Furthermore, the usages of mobile technologies help make the studying process more
intuitive, fluent and engaging for students. If students are using laptop, a teacher can send
them supplementary educational materials via e-mail or in social media.
We live in the 21st century, and it is difficult to keep adhering to old ways when each
day brings on innovations of different kinds. Allowing students to use laptop in class would
be a small but substantial change. I think students can use technology effectively to their
advantage.
24. What does the text mainly about?
A. Technology.
B. The use of laptops.
C. The controversy of laptops.
D. Students should improve their handwriting.
E. Students should be allowed to use laptops in class.
25. “We live in the 21st century, and it is difficult to keep adhering to old ways…” (paragraph 4)
The underline word has similar in meaning to………………
A. supporting
B. observing
C. ignoring
D. participating
E. following
26. What is the weakness of handwriting?
A. It is sometimes unreadable.
B. It is authentic.
C. No one makes it fake.
D. It is practical and easy.
E. It is small but substantial change.

Why is ethanol a good alternative to the fuel which is used now? Firstly, ethanol is based
on renewable resources. It is produced from agricultural products, such as sugar beet, sugar
cane, potatoes, grains and raw materials such as pulp (smashed wood or plant material), soft
wood and waste paper. The raw materials for ethanol are obtained from forests or farm. Trees
do not need to be cut down to get ethanol; we can get it from the branches and dead wood.

“Avengers Assembly” (‘The Avengers’) is a truly enjoyable superhero film that lives
up to its hype and create a story that allows for four of the greatest superheroes to connect in
this mega-blockbuster extravaganza. Joss Weldon has created one of the most action-packed
Marvel films to have graced the screen, full of humor, thrills and a great cast of characters, all
of which impel this visual effects-driven spectacle.
Whilst I had the great opportunity to watch this epic in the cinema in 3D, the film is
equally as stunning on average television sets, with the final battle between the Avengers and

James Watt was born in Greenock on 19 January 1736. His father, also called James, was
a ship builder. As a boy Watt went to the local grammar school where he studied classics and
mathematics. The young Watt also liked making models.
Eventually, Watt decided to become a maker of mathematical instruments, such as
quadrants and compasses. In 1755 he went to London, but only stayed there for two years
before moving to Glasgow.
In 1764 Watt made a model of Newcomer steam engine. In this engine, the steam was
pushed into a cylinder, and then condensed back into water. A year later Watt realized it
would be more efficient to condense the steam in another chamber separate from the cylinder.
However, it was not until 1769 that Watt patented his new idea, the separate condenser.
In 1775 he went into partnership with Matthew Bolton and began making steam
engines which were used for pumping water out of mines. By 1780 the Industrial Revolution
was beginning to transform life in Britain and Watt adapted his steam engines to provide a
rotary motion so they could be used to power machines in new factories.
In 1781 he used the sun to do this and four years later, steam engines were used to
power machines in cotton mills for the first time. Meanwhile, in 1782 Watt invented another
major improvement, the double–acting steam engines. In 1788 he invented the fly ball Royal to
regulate the speed of steam engines and he made a pressure gauge in 1790.

1800. James Watt died on 25 August 1819 and was buried in Birmingham.

Should Students Be Given Homework?
The question about homework is hotly debated. There are a lot of discussions as
to whether children should be given homework or not. There are people are argue that
the discipline of homework is essential. However other insist that children who already
study extremely hard at school to do not need to spend their evening to do homework.
Some teachers and parents argue that it is important to find out whether children
can work on their own without support from the teacher. They say that the evening is
good time for children to sit down and think about what they have learned at school.
Furthermore, they claim that school day is short to get anything done that needs doing,
and it makes sense to give homework.
On the other hand, there are parents and teachers who believe it is fundamentally
unfair to force children to do their homework. They argue that children spend an
enormous amount of time at school and that they should be able to learn all they need to
know during the school day. They argue that it is cruel to prevent children from using
their leisure time to pursue their interests and hobbies. Moreover, those against
homework believe that there is more to life than academic success. They point out that
