Carlos “ Botong” Francsisco

Francisco was a most distinguished practitioner of mural


painting for many decades and best known for his historical pieces.
He was one of the first Filipino modernists along with Galo Ocampo
and Victorio C. Edades who broke away from Fernando Amorsolo's
romanticism of Philippine scenes.

Bayanihan is one of the artworks


made by Carlos Francisco. The
artwork entitled Bayanihan literally
means, being a bayan, and has been
used to refer to a spirit of communal
unity and cooperation.
Fernando Amorsolo
Fernando Cueto Amorsolo was a portraitist and painter of rural
Philippine landscapes. Nicknamed the "Grand Old Man of Philippine
Art," he was the first-ever to be recognized as a National Artist of the
Philippines.

Pablo Sebero Antonio, Sr.
Pablo Sebero Antonio, Sr. was a Filipino architect. A pioneer of
modern Philippine architecture, he was recognized in some quarters
as the foremost Filipino modernist architect of his time. The rank and
title of National Artist of the Philippines was conferred on him by
President Ferdinand Marcos in 1976.
He likewise designed the
Ramon Roces Publications
Building (now Guzman
Institute of Electronics) in
Soler Street in Manila, the
Capitan Luis Gonzaga
Building (1953), and the
Boulevard-Alhambra (now
called Bel-Air) Apartments
Building in Roxas Boulevard &
where Manila Bay Hostel is
located on the 4th floor.
Francisco Mañosa

Francisco "Bobby" Tronqued Mañosa was a Filipino architect


considered one of the most influential Filipino architects of the 20th
century for having pioneered the art of Philippine neovernacular
architecture. 
The Coconut Palace
was designed by National Artist
for Architecture Francisco
Mañosa. As much as 70 percent
of the structure is made of
materials derived from the
coconut tree: coconut lumber,
coconut shells, and coconut
husks. Other materials are all
indigenous hardwoods and
marble from the Philippines.
Napoleon Abueva
Napoleon "Billy" Veloso Abueva was known as the "Father of
Modern Philippine Sculpture" Through Proclamation No. 1539. He was
proclaimed National Artist for Sculpture in 1976 when he was 46,
making him the youngest recipient of the award to date.
Kaganapan is one of Napoleon
Abueva's work of art. Sculpted out of
marble in 1952 when Abueva was still a
young student at the University of the
Philippines, this sculpture won the
grand prize in the Arts Association of
the Philippines' annual competition.
With a dimension of 91.44 cms.,
Kaganapan literally interprets the
female reproductive function as a
fulfillment to women. It is now included
in Abueva's collection.
Guillermo Tolentino
Guillermo Estrella Tolentino was a Filipino sculptor and professor
of the University of the Philippines. He was designated as a National
Artist of the Philippines for Sculpture in 1973, three years before his
death.

DR. Jose Rizal
Rizal was a polymath, skilled in both science and the arts. He
painted, sketched, and made sculptures and woodcarving. He was
a prolific poet, essayist, and novelist whose most famous works were
his two novels, Noli Me Tángere (1887) and its sequel, EL

considerably in his two most famous
novels, Noli Me Tángere, published in
Berlin in 1887, and El Filibusterismo,
published in Ghent in 1891.
Francisco Balagtas
Francisco Balagtas y de la Cruz, commonly known as Francisco
Balagtas and also as Francisco Baltasar, was a Filipino Tagalog
litterateur and poet during the Spanish colonial period of the
Philippines. He is widely considered one of
the greatest Filipino literary laureates for
his impact on Filipino literature.

defining work.
Dolphy
Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. GCGH, better known by his stage names
Dolphy, Pidol, and Golay, was a Filipino comedian and actor. He is
widely regarded as the country's "King of Comedy" for his comedic
talent embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television
and movies.
Kalabog en Bosyo would
become the longest-running comic
strip series in the Philippines,
running for over a decade. In 1957,
the strip was turned into a successful
film by Sampaguita Pictures, with the
inimitable Dolphy and Panchito
essaying the roles of Kalabog en
Bosyo.

Nora Aunor
Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, professionally known as Nora Aunor,
is a Filipino actress, recording artist, and film producer. Aunor has
also appeared in several stage plays, television shows and concerts.
Himala (English: Miracle) is a 1982
Filipino film directed by Ishmael Bernal
and produced by the Experimental
Cinema of the Philippines. It stars Nora
Aunor as a young woman living in the
province who claims to have seen a
Marian apparition.
Lea Salonga
Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga OL, known professionally as
Lea Salonga, is a Filipina singer, actress, and columnist. Nicknamed
"Pride of the Philippines," she is best known for her roles in musical
theatre, for supplying the singing voices of two Disney Princesses,
and as a recording artist and television performer. 

 Lea Salonga performed the original


version of "A Whole New World" for
Disney's 1992 animated film, and
Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle
recorded a single version for the end
credits. Alan Menken composed the
song alongside lyricist Tim Rice.
Sarah Geronimo
Sarah Asher Tua Geronimo-Guidicelli is a Filipino singer,
performer and actress. Geronimo rose to prominence after winning
the television singing contest Star for a Night earning her a recording
contract with Viva Records.

Lamberto Vera Avellana

Lamberto Vera Avellana was a prominent Filipino film and


stage director. Despite considerable budgetary limitations that
hampered the post-war Filipino film industry, Avellana's films such as
Anak Dalita and Badjao attained international acclaim.

As a filmaker he developed a style


where the camera was used to present
a point-of-view. Avellana was the first
Filipino director to have his film
Kandelerong Pilak (silver Candlesticks)
screened at the Cannes film festival.
Anak Dalita (1956) and Badjao (1957)
perhaps stand as his most prominent
works.
Rolando Santos Tinio
Rolando Santos Tinio is a Filipino poet, dramatist, director, actor, critic,
essayist, and educator. He is a Philippine National Artist for Theater and
Literature. His greatest distinction is being a stage director. He staged,
organized, and administrated productions for the Ateneo Experimental
Theater. But it was in Teatro Pilipino that he was able to leave a huge remark
by reviving traditional Filipino drama.

Ang Larawan is a movie adaptation of


Larawan, The Musical,. The movie is a
stage translation of Nick Joaquin's A
Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, a 3-act
play first published in the 1950s. The
original staging features music by Ryan
Cayabyab and libretto by Rolando Tinio.
