Showing x-sec arrows on Flat Pattern and x-section on Formed shape. Changing dimensions from Linear to Ordinate. What does the SETUP.DTL file do? In Release 2001, where did the SHOW/ERASE window go? How to make a circular Detail View boundary.
Showing x-sec arrows on Flat Pattern and x-section on Formed shape. When you need to make a drawing showing both the Flat Pattern and Formed Shape, it is sometimes required to show a x-section view after bending, but with the x-section arrows on the flat pattern views. There is no direct way to do this in Pro/E since the Flat pattern and Formed pattern are 2 different models. To accomplish this view type:
1. Create a drawing with both Flat and Formed patterns. 2. Once the Flat pattern view is shown, make a Projection View, X-Section type. 3. Show the x-section arrows on the Flat view. 4. Make a view of the Formed shape, using General, X-Section, and orient in the proper position. 5. When the system asks to place the X-Section arrows, select NONE (middle-mouse button). 6. Return to the Flat Pattern view, and select to ERASE the projection view. 7. When the system prompts you to erase all associated arrows with this view, type in "NO" and press
enter.
8. Now the erased view will not remove the x-section arrows form the Flat pattern view.

Changing dimensions from Linear to Ordinate. When making a drawing, you can use the SHOW/ERASE icon to display dimensions. By default, these are displayed as LINEAR. To change them to ORDINATE, select from the FILE menu, EDIT / LINEAR TO ORDINATE and pick the dimension, and then the witness line to make it the "ZERO" mark. TOP
What does the SETUP.DTL file do? The SETUP.dtl file is accessed from the DRAWING mode / ADVANCED / SETUP / MODIFY VAL. Pro/ENGINEER drawing setup files are used to customize the characteristics of the height of dimension and note text, text orientation, geometric tolerance standards, font properties, drafting standards, and arrow lengths. Pro/ENGINEER saves drawing setup file options with each individual drawing and drawing format. It is therefore important to create various drawing formats for Imperial, Metric or other units and have the corresponding drawing setup file options attached to these formats. The system gives default values to these setup file options, but you can modify the values to customize a drawing, and save them to use in other drawings. The system saves (and retrieves) the values in a drawing setup file named filename.dtl. The file that you specify in the configuration file option drawing_setup_file establishes the default drawing setup file option values for any drawing that you create during a Pro/ENGINEER session. If you do not set this option, the system uses the default drawing setup file option values. You can install sample drawing setup files for DIN, ISO, and JIS from the loadpoint/text directory with the following names: din.dtl iso.dtl jis.dtl Retrieve these setup files to set the desired environment in your drawing. In Release 2001, where did the SHOW/ERASE window go? In Release 2001, the SHOW/ERASE window is located in the top toolbar under VIEW / SHOW ERASE. Alternatively, in the Model Tree, you can select the feature or part (in Assembly) and right-click to select SHOW DIMENSIONS / SHOW DIMENSIONS BY VIEW. TOP
How to make a circular Detail View boundary. When making a Detail View, the sketched spline defines the boundary outline of the new view. Sketching a clean boundary can often be a challenge. Now you can use existing options to make a circular boundary on the new Detail View. First, you must select Grid Modify / Grid On and then pick Grid Type / Polar. Pick Origin and select where on an existing view you will make the Detail View from. If the grid is too large, then select Grid Params and change the Ang Spacing / Num Lines or Rad Spacing to suit your needs. Now select Environment and pick Snap To Grid. When you now create your new Detail View, use the Grid and snap the spline to achieve a circle. See the images below.
Making a spline to determine the detail view boundary can be sometimes tricky.
The result is a hard to control boundary breakout.
Using the Polar Grid system and Snap option, allows for a cleaner boundary detail.
