Chinese Broadband Bias-T 10MHz-6GHz Rev1

A broadband Bias-T purchased from China for less than 12 Euros was found to have an aluminum enclosure and to cover frequencies from 10MHz to 6GHz while handling up to 50V and 500mA. Measurements showed an insertion loss of under 0.5dB up to 2.5GHz but around 5dB at 6GHz, so the device is recommended for use between 50MHz and 3GHz.

Chinese Broadband Bias-T 10MHz-6GHz

Rev 1.0

Hello,

Recently I bought a broadband Bias-T from a Chinese vendor. The Bias-T is mounted in a nice milled
aluminium case and I was astonished that the price including shipping from China to Germany was less than 12
Euros. The Bias-T is advertised to to cover a frequency range of 10MHz to 6GHz. It is specified to handle up to
50V and 500mA. No information was given with respect to the insertion loss.

The dimensions of the Bias-T are 7cm x 4.5cm x 1.2cm. Here are some pictures of the Bias-T:

Next, I opened the encasing wo see what is inside.

The same Bias-T PCB without the aluminium encasing can be purchased on Ebay for 3,30 Euros.
However, I think that the nice shielded encasing is worth the additional cost.

Next, I measured the insertion loss in the frequency range from DC to 7 GHz:

As can be seen the insertion loss stays better than 0.5dB up to approximately 2.5 GHz. At 6 GHz the insertion
loss is approximately 5dB which is too much in my applications. I recommend to use this Bias-T in the
frequency range 50 MHz to 3 GHz.

I always appreciate feedback. Please send it to the Email address below.

Best regards
