High School Applied Physics Lab Guide

This document describes an Applied Physics Lab course offered at CECOS University. The course is worth 1 credit hour and involves 48 hours of practical work. [The course aims to enhance students' skills in classical physics concepts through hands-on experiments in forces, motion, optics, and electricity. Students will learn proper lab procedures and techniques for documentation.] Over 12 weeks, students will complete experiments on vector addition, Newton's laws of motion, Lenz's law of induction, centripetal force, photoelectric effect, moment of inertia, lens focal length, and Coulomb's law. [The goals are for students to acquire physics knowledge, analyze experimental data, and learn to work effectively individually and in teams.]

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Applied Physics Lab consists of experiments from the classical physics and it enhances the skills of
students regarding the basic concepts of physics, for example Forces, Vectors, Laws of motion, the
laws of lenses, Lenz’s law and magnetism, the concept of flywheel and other basics of classical
physics. The lab inculcates in student the basics of physics with practical applications.

TEXT AND MATERIALS:

Physics Lab Manual

REFERENCE BOOK’s

1. Physics by Halliday Krane Resnick 5th Edition

2. Cutnell - Physics 9th
3. Text book of Physics for 9th and 10th grade, B.I.S.E.P

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The course is designed so that students will achieve the PLO/s:

1. PLO 4. Investigation: An ability to investigate complex engineering problems in a

methodical way including literature survey, design and conduct of experiments, analysis and
interpretation of experimental data, and synthesis of information to derive valid conclusions.
2. PLO 9. Individual and Team Work: An ability to work effectively, as an individual or in a
team, on multifaceted and /or multidisciplinary settings.
