Procedure for setting the encoder for the 4 and 2+2 cylinder
proportional knockout with Sacmi Axis control card (AX).
The encoder is factory set at Sacmi and, unless it malfunctions, must never be reset.
If the encoder malfunctions, perform the reset procedure given below.
• Turn on the power unit motor.
• Press the reset key in order to energise YV25 / YV22 and make sure the die-set is securely down.
• Turn off the power supply to the controller.
• Lock the encoder sensor by using the lever provided.
• With the machine turned off, disconnect the cable for encoder BQ4 or BQ5.
• Loosen the screws which secure the encoder by using a 3mm Allen wrench and rotate the encoder so that the
connector is no longer in the central position but offset by approx. 7 mm towards the inside for encoder BQ4 and
towards the outside for BQ5.
• Tighten the fixing screws.
• Connect the relevant PH 280.87.949 adapter cable to the encoder. The cable is connected at the other end to the
Incremental Encoder Setting Device SMC 085.06.911 which displays the encoder pulses.
• Remove the top screw of the encoder.
• Keep the key held tight with the 8 mm socket wrench and insert a sufficiently long 4 mm Allen wrench inside the
socket wrench.
• Slightly loosen the key by loosening the 4 mm Allen wrench.
• Slowly turn the encoder by turning the key counter-clockwise (downwards) for cylinder A or clockwise for cylinder B
until the middle red light flashes. Then turn slightly in the opposite direction so that all three LEDs stay on (green -
red - green).
• Lock the encoder key and put back the top screw. Reconnect the cable of encoder BQ4 or BQ5.
• Turn the power supply to the controller back on.
• Read the encoder value on the data page.
• Loosen the screws which secure the encoder with a 3 mm Allen wrench and turn the encoder slowly clockwise for
cylinder A or counter-clockwise for cylinder B until the encoder value read on the data page has decreased by
between 2 and 3 mm.
The encoder connector will go back to approx. the central position.
• Tighten the encoder fixing screws.
• Release the encoder sensor by using the lever provided.
• Turn the power supply to the controller off.
• Turn the power supply to the controller back on.
• Turn the power unit on and perform the die-set reset procedure in automatic mode.
• Once the reset procedure has been completed, open the SPE diagnostics page and read the values indicating zero
position A and zero position B. The zero values must be between 2 and 3 mm. If this is not the case, the setting must
be adjusted as follows:
Turn off the power unit.
Lock the encoder sensor by using the lever provided.
Loosen the encoder fixing screws and slowly turn the encoder as described below:
- To increase the zero position of cylinder A turn the encoder clockwise until the value read on the data page has
decreased by the required amount.
- To reduce the zero position of cylinder A turn the encoder counter-clockwise until the value read is increased by the
required amount.

- To increase the zero position of cylinder B turn counter-clockwise until the value read is decreased by the required
amount.
- To reduce the zero position of cylinder B turn clockwise until the value read is increased by the required amount.
• Tighten the encoder fixing screws.
• Release the encoder sensor with the lever provided.
• Turn the controller back on again.
• Turn the power unit on and perform the die-set reset procedure in automatic mode.
• Read the new value of the zero position on the SPE diagnostics page.
NOTE:
• Encoder A (BQ4) is the one positioned on the left as seen from the tile exit end. Encoder B (BQ5) is the one
positioned on the right.
• To remove the encoder loosen the key first and then completely take out the fixing screws.
• To put the encoder back in place tighten the encoder fixing screws first and then, once the setting has been made,
tighten the key.
