SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The KAPPA System is composed of the combination between K-CTR controller mother board and
secondary electric boards on car , car operating panel and at each floor , communicating via CAN BUS
protocol.

Electronic boards are :

1. K-CTR Controller mother board. It’s the main board ,located into controller.
2. K-CAR Auxiliary car roof board, acquirse signals of car travelling,door operators etc , located in a
box on car top.
3. K-COP Car operating panel interface board, located beside car operating panel.
4. K-EPB Floor board,collects floor calls,floor signals etc , located into shaft , at each floor .
5. K-LDG Floor board, full collective type collects floor calls,signals etc , located into shaft , at each
floor .
6. K-DSP Proprietary display board , located beside display.
7. K-IO Auxiliary I/O expansion board, general purpose. Location depends on function required.
8. K-ALE Alarm board, emergency battery charger, located into controller.
9. K-SPD Speed control safety system board, located into controller.
10. K-SYS Voice syntethizer board, located beside car operating panel
11. K-ENC Special signals dedicated board , A3 MRL optional board , located into controller or into
shaft.

Note that depending on the options required you may have only some of these boards.

INTRODUCTION

Reading this manual, you’ll be able to put the lift into service performing
some simple operations as described below.
Read carefully all parts of the manual before initiating to commissioning
the lift. This manual is also intended for normally operating the lift. Into
programming section you’ll learn about options and features of the
controller.

After performing electrical connections, check for correct operations

before to switch on electrical power supply , to avoid damages in case of
commissioning errors .

DANGER ! In temporary installation connect safety inspection device as follows ( Fig 1 ) . Be

sure to connect logical low voltage circuits to connector M3 and safety chain circuits to connector
VS1 .

HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE! The lift is equipped with capacitors , so hazardous voltage may
remain 3minutes after the switch off of main power supply. Wait at least for this time before to
service controller .

Preliminary TEST
Provisional operation without car connection :

Referring to installation schematics, connect circuits as follows :

o Terminals “R”, “S”, “T” (Pag. 1) to power supply net. Be sure that power supply is appropriate for the
lift controller ( Nominal voltage, phase number , rated power ) and that power supply cables section
is correct for rated current.
o Motor Supply “U”, “V”, “W” (Pag. 1). Be sure to connect motor phases exactly as into schematics .
Wrong connections may cause uncontrolled movements or big hurts of torque. Serious injury may
occur not respecting this !
o If hydraulic lift connect valvles supply (Pag. 4), motor and thermal protection (Pag. 1)
o If traction lift (Pag. 20) connect brake supply (Pag. 1) and motor thermal protection (Pag. 1)
o Bridge out connection releated to not existing devices (Pag.3)
o Remove wire on connector M3 (wires P 1 e P4- M3) on K-CTR board into controller and connect
inspection box (Fig. 1)

Following verification has now to be performed, before to give any command to the lift:

o Check all supply voltage, Power Supply (Pag. 1), Power supply of K-CTR board (Pag. 2)
o Check that safety circuit led’s on K-CTR board into controller are off. When you give an inspection
command, all leds will be on (SIC 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – Pag.3)

For magnets positioning on shaft you should refer to schematics on pg. 70/80

HYDRAULIC LIFT – STOPPING LEVEL

Into the picture you can see magnets positioning

on guiderails, be careful that the overlaps between
IU and ID must be at least 4cm.
To reach overlaps use parameters :
“2.03-Rit.stop salita”
“2.04-Rit.stop discesa”
At top and bottom floors , for correct positioning,
Force the lift to leveling , top floor leveling down and
Bottom floor leveling up.
In this way you can check the correct lift stopping.

ROPE LIFT – STOPPING LEVEL

Into the picture you can see magnets positioning

on guiderails, be careful that the overlaps between
IU and ID must be at least 5cm.
To reach overlaps use parameters :

If the lift is VVVF equipped , the approaching speed
( velocità accostamento ) is significant.

SLOWING MAGNETS POSITIONING ( for hydraulic and ropes lift )

Slowing magnets are located between each floor.

In the picture you can see slowing magnets

positioning , with different cases :
1° - upgoing slowing magnet IU is over the
slowing downgoing magnet ID and
between them the distance is > 5cm
PERMITTED POSITIONING (OK)
2° - upgoing slowing magnet IU is beside the
slowing downgoing magnet ID and
between them the distance is > 5cm
PERMITTED POSITIONING (OK)
3° - The distance between magnets is
< 5cm
NOT PERMITTED POSITIONING (NO!!)
For the height of “slowing distance” refer to schematics on pg 70/80
With digital shaft system, slowing magnets are not required. The slowing distance is calculated with
motor encoder signals ( see digital shaft chapter )

TOP/BOTTOM SYNCRONIZATORS

Into the picture you can see the positioning of round

magnets on guiderails. The round magnets

With car positioned between floors ( middle shaft ) , on car top board ( K-CAR ) check that leds SU and SD

Going DOWN with car inspection, you should see SD led getting off when you reach SD magnet, and
remain off under SD magnet.
Going UP with car inspection, you should see SU led getting off when you reach SU magnet, and remain off
over SU magnet. If you get in some position into the shaft both SU and SD leds OFF, this will cause an error.

Put into normal service

CAN BUS resistance check to be performed at the end of commisioning , without power supply,
alarm battery disconnected , and all connectors correctly inserted.

With a digital tester positioned on ohm “Ω” ( 200 ohm full scale ) measure between terminals 1 and 2 of
connector SL1 on K-CTR :

• 60Ω = correct value

• 120Ω = one SLC termination missing (SLC bridge)
• 40Ω = too much SLC terminations

Repeat the same measure between terminals 1 and 2 of connector SL2 on K-CTR :

Consider that if the value is not correct, you should check that the first and the last boards connected to
sl1 are with slc closed. If the value is >60 ohm you have one missing enclosure ( at begin or end of sl1 ) ,
if it’s <60 ohm you have too much enclosures. The same as to sl2 line. Some tolerance in values is
permitted , depending also of the instrument used , about 10%.

Operating the lift with incorrect can bus ohmic values may produce errors on can bus line itself or lift
random problems or stops. Ask for technical assistance in case of dubt.

All the electronic boards supplied with lift are programmed and set into factory. All the electronic boards
supplied as spare parts must be checked for setting depending on lift installation.

Alarm reset :

BE CAREFUL!

To reset an alarm of the lift operate one of these:

- Activate inspection switch from car top, then switch in normal position again.
or
- Activate RDF switch ( controller operation ) , then switch in normal position again.
or
- Disconnect and reconnect M3 connector on K-CTR main board into controller
or
- Delete alarms into menu “50. LISTA GUASTI”, “02-Cancellazione”

One of these , if the alarm is solved ( not still active ) , will reset the lift.

DIGITAL SHAFT SETUP PROCEDURE

BE CAREFUL ! For digital shaft setup it’s ,mandatory that an encoder or a digital encoder
repetition is connected to terminal Q3 of K-CTR board.

Setup procedure
1) Put magnets on guiderails into shaft as descrive into wiring diagram 30.8002.00 pg. 80

2) Check fot the following parameters:

• 1. 02-Numero Fermate( stop numbers ) – Set the number of stops of the lift
• 2. 01-Motore Tipo ( motor type ) – it must be n.12 ( V3F generico C/L )
• 9. 02-Vano digitale ( digital shaft ) – it must be 01 (Digitale (K-CTR) )
• 9. 06-Divisore encoder -- It must be 50
3) Check for the speed levels set into the inverer , as you can use four speed with digital shaft:
1. V4 – Alta velocità ( high speed ) , [FRENIC LIFT – C11] – 1m/s
2. V3 – Velocità intermedia ( intermediate-high speed ) [FRENIC LIFT – C09] – 0,80m/s
3. V2 – Velocità intermedia ( intermediate-low speed ) [FRENIC LIFT – C05] – 0,30m/s
4. V1 – Velocità accostamento ( approaching speed ) [FRENIC LIFT – C07] – 0,05m/s

BE CAREFUL ! During digital shaft setup, the lift moves automatically up and down at inspection
speed. Be sure all the safety systems are properly working, and be sure the car is ready to travel
into shaft with all safety requirements. Serious injury may occur not respecting this !

4) Perform levels acquiring and saving :

• menu 9 VANO DIGITALE ( digital shaft ), param.-9.07 : “Misura livelli” ( levels measure )
press “Enter”: the lift will go to reset, at the lowest floor , then automatically goes up in inspection
speed, reading the lowest position of first IU magnet ( IU-L ). After this, reading the bottom
syncronizator ( SU ) the car pass into slow speed and stops at floor.
The lift now starts again ,going down in inspection speed toward the highest position of first IU
magnet ( IU – H ).This two values IU-L and IU-H will be saved into 9.09 “Tara livelli”( levels setup ).

5) Perform slowdown distance acquiring :

• menu 9 VANO DIGITALE ( digital shaft ), param.-9.08 : “Misura rallentam.” ( slowdown measure )
press “Enter”: the lift will go to reset, at the lowest floor , then automatically goes up at V4 speed ,
performing a slowdown and measuring the slowdown space.
• After this the lift automatically performs a reset, and a travel at various speeds ( V3,V2,V1).
• The slowing down distances, at various speeds are saved into 9.10 “Taratura rallent.” ( slowdown
measures ) R4, R3, R2, R1.

6) Press “ESC” many times to memorize and finish the procedure.

7) Test sto be performed before normal travelling :

Into menu “9.09-Tara livelli” ( levels setup ) check that for all the floors position value “L” is lower than
position value “H”

Example for 3 stops lift : P0 L . . . . 0 H . . . 81 ( level 0 position value )

P1 L . 1373 H . 1398 ( level 1 position value )
P2 L . 2025 H . 2048 ( level 2 position value )

As described, you can see that “L” value is always lower than “H” value

Into menu “9.10-Tara rallentamenti” (slowdown measures) check that for all the speeds the values are
proportional to the speeds ( speed higher = slowdown distance bigger )

Ex. R1 . . . . 8 (V1-Accostamento) - approach speed

R2 . . . 70 (V2-Velocità intermedia bassa) – intermediate slow speed
R3 . . 150 (V3-Velocità intermedia alta) – intermediate high speed
R4 . . 300 (V4-Velocità alta) – high speed
If you found R3=R4 it means that V3=V4 , so you ‘ll have to change the V3 speed level into the inverter.
After this you’ll perform again pt 5 of the procedure.
If the values are correct, now you can move the lift in normal operation.

BE CAREFULL ! Do not perform the first call to highest or lowest floor !

Operate the first call to the nearest floor ( but not the highest or lowest ) , and check the correct lift
positioning at floor.
Consider that the car must run at least 5-10cm in approaching speed to perform a correct floor positioning.
Now try making a call travelling for two floors.
If the lift arrives a little bit over the floor, try to increase into menu “9.10-Tara rallentamenti” (slowdown
measures) the values of R3 o R4 .

IMPORTANT! Note that the slowdown distance is given by R1 and R2 or R3 or R4 . So

increasing R1 value you’ll also increase slowdond distance.

So you can also try to increase R1 if the auto-set slowdown distance is not sufficient.

After trying the stop sto all floors, move the magnets at each floor, if necessary,to fine set the floor
positioning.Perform again the procedure at pt 4 ( levels acquire ).

Errors and common problems solutions :

ERROR “Quota rifasatore Sup” / “Quota rifasatore Inf” ( level top/bottom syncronizator )
CONDITION SU or SD syncronizator has been met at high speed ( V4 )
SOLUTION Move SU higher or SD lower so that the lift can slowdown before it

ERRORE “Piano Inf No Rifas” / “Piano Sup No Rifas” ( bottom/top level , No syncronizator )
CONDITION The lift is at top or bottom floor, but the SU or SD signal doesn’t appear
SOLUTION check for SU or SD magnet position, or sensor,or wiring. Use leds on K-CAR ( car top ) or
keypad to easier check.

ERROR “Rif Inf Err Piano” / “Rif Sup Err Piano” ( error bottom/top level )
CONDITION The lift is at floor with SU or SD switched, but the floor is not top or bottom.
SOLUTION Check for IU,ID floor magnets correct positions ( minimum overlap 4cm !! )

ERRORE “Mancanza IU al piano” / “Mancanza ID al piano” ( missing IU / ID at floor )

CONDITION In stopping phase, the lift overtravelled the floor magnets (IU+ID),
If it stops upgoing and only IU is energized , error : “Mancanza IU al piano”
If it stops downgoing and only ID is energized , error : “Mancanza ID al piano”

SOLUTION Verificare la sovrapposizione dei magneti di fermata IU/ID, devono essere di almeno 4cm
Verificare le quote di rallentamento, param. “09.10-Taratura rallent. ”

These errors do not stop the lift, but signalize a not correct behavior , so the lift will go to reset after one of
this signalization, to acquire again a zero position mark. Check for IU/IU , SU/SD magnets position if one of
these errors appear.
