Course Title : MAED 302 CURRENT ISSUES AND PROBLEMS IN EDUCATION

Course Description

This course will engage in the critical examination of a wide array of current educational issues from a variety of perspectives, like: socio-cultural,
philosophical, historical, economic, moral, legal, pedagogical, professional, and personal. Emphasis will be on developing, analyzing, and clarifying personal beliefs,
values, assumptions related to educational practice and decision-making within the context of what can often be contentious and educational issues difficult to
resolve.

Course Credit : 3 Units

Contact Hours : 3 Hours per Week

Pre-requisite : None

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, MAED students shall be able to:

1. examine a wide array of current educational issues from a variety of perspectives (socio-cultural, philosophical, historical, economic, moral, legal,
pedagogical, professional, and personal);
2. develop, analyze, and clarify personal beliefs, values, assumptions related to educational practice;
3. enhance decision-making skills within the context of what can often be contentious and educational issues difficult to resolve;
4. practice core values and professionalism at any endeavors in response to the school’s Mission, Vision, and Philosophy.

Course Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the semester, every graduate student is expected to:

1. discuss Basic Education Development Plan 2030 as long-term plan for basic education to strategically address the immediate impact of the pandemic on
learning and confront the challenge of education quality;
2. explain the 45 key initiatives of the MATATAG Agenda;
3. discuss the the roles and responsibilities of DepEd operating units in conducting monitoring and evaluation (M&E), set the systems and processes of the
organization, and firm-up indicators to reflect the agency performance and goals through the Basic Education Monitoring and Evaluation Framework ;
4. recognize professional development opportunities of teachers through the Implementation of the NEAP Transformation (DO 11, s. 2019)
5. discuss Merit Selection Plan or hiring of employees on the basis of their qualifications, fitness and ability to perform the duties and assume the
responsibilities of the position being filled;
6. discuss Induction Program for Beginning Teachers or the agency’s initiative on the professional development program that incorporates mentoring and is
designed to offer support, guidance, and orientation for beginning teachers during the transition into their first teaching jobs;
7. examine K-10 curriculum;
8. appraise the Proposed Policy Revisions to Teacher Workload;
9. analyze the Mainstreaming of Gender and Development in the Curriculum and Harmonized Gender and Development Programs;
10. discuss issues and concerns on the Multi-Year RPMS-PPST Tools and Guidelines;
11. submit meta-analysis of researches on the current issues on policies, curriculum, governance both in higher and basic education.

1. ATTENDANCE. This is crucial as every scheduled class will have discussions which are vital for you to understand topics. And if you will be absent because
of sickness or other emergencies, make sure to notify your instructor and ask your classmates for possible assignments or quizzes that you may have
missed. Be sure as well to make up for any, if there are. Should the instructor be absent, you will be given an activity to work on class.
2. GADGETS. The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited during class. Kindly turn off your phones or put them into silent mode.
3. HONESTY. Assignments, quizzes cases as well as examinations must be your own, original work. Do not ever attempt to copy or represent someone’s work
as your own. Always remember that plagiarism is a serious offense

4. CONDUCT. Classroom discussions enable us to share our opinions and or ideas, and learn from others. It is a must that we observe proper conduct (e.g. not
making fun of other students) especially during recitation. Criticisms are encouraged as long as they are objective or are not offensive.
5. PUNCTUALITY. Punctuality means being present before the class starts. Furthermore, it also means being able to submit given assignments, cases and
other assigned activities on or before the deadline. Late submissions will incur deductions.
6. PERONAL NECESSITIES. Please make sure to use the restroom before the class starts.
7. CONSULTATION. Should you be needing clarificatory questions with any of the planned topics or activities, please feel free to message via created class
